Top Justin Crawford News

  • Justin Crawford: Let go by Falcons

Crawford was waived by Atlanta on Saturday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports.

Crawford racked up the most receptions of any Falcons pass catcher this preseason (seven), but proved to be wildly inefficient as a ball carrier by averaging less than two yards per rush through his first three professional contests. The former West Virginia Mountaineer had his best outing against the Dolphins in the preseason finale, racking up 26 rushing yards on seven attempts (3.7 yards per rush). It's evident that the undrafted rookie is struggling with the transition to the next level, as he posted a sub-3.7 yard per carry clip only five times in 25 career games at West Virginia, and he's already done so in three of his first four NFL appearances.

  • Falcons' Justin Crawford: Puts forth best showing of the preseason

Crawford racked up 26 rushing yards on seven carries while adding one reception for six yards in a 34-7 preseason defeat to Miami on Thursday.

Though he only picked up 3.7 yards per carry in the preseason finale, Crawford appeared significantly more confident in comparison to his first three exhibition outings when he amassed just 18 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Crawford's production in the ground game was largely unimpressive, but he flashed potential to be a serviceable NFL scatback in the future -- collecting a team-high seven receptions on 11 targets during the exhibition slate.

  • Falcons' Justin Crawford: Neutralized for second straight game

Crawford once again struggled to get anything going on the ground, compiling five yards on three attempts amidst a 28-14 loss to Kansas City on Friday night.

The Big 12's fourth-leading rusher from a year ago has been an absolute non-factor in the running game thus far, with a measly eight yards on eight attempts at the midway point of the exhibition slate. Crawford has shown signs of life as a pass-catcher (four receptions for 29 yards against the Jets last week), but that modest production as a receiver will likely fail to help him earn him a spot on the 53-man roster if he fails to drastically improve his rushing efficiency over the latter half of the preseason.

  • Falcons' Justin Crawford: Struggles rushing in preseason opener

Crawford opened the preseason by gaining three yards on five carries and adding four receptions for 29 yards on six targets in Friday's 17-0 loss to the Jets.

Crawford and Ito Smith are competing for the No. 3 running back job in Atlanta, and neither did much to help their case here, though at least Crawford displayed some decent receiving chops. Smith was even worse than Crawford with a combined minus-2 yards on three touches, so both players will look to make a better case for themselves in future preseason contests.
