  • Colts' Hunter Wohler: Plays in preseason opener

Wohler made three tackles (two solo) over nine defensive snaps during Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts. Wohler logged only 12 percent of the defensive snaps in Thursday's contest but made the most of the time. The backup strong safety recorded a tackle on 33 percent of his snaps. The 2025 seventh-rounder's performance has likely earned him more reps in next Saturday's preseason showdown with the Falcons.

  • Colts' Hunter Wohler: Now dealing with hamstring issue

Wohler has not participated in recent training camp practices due to a hamstring injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. There's no timeline of return for the 2025 seventh-rounder, who was sidelined for his entire rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury in his foot that he suffered in a preseason game in August of 2025. Given the lack of a recovery timeline, it appears Wohler is unlikely to be available for the Colts' preseason opener against the Patriots on Thursday.

  • Colts' Hunter Wohler: Eyeing return for training camp

Wohler (foot) said Wednesday he believes he will be healthy when Indianapolis starts training camp in July, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. General manager Chris Ballard indicated a couple weeks ago that Wohler was at the end of his rehab process for the Lisfranc injury he suffered during preseason last year, and Wohler echoed those sentiments to reporters Wednesday. The Colts recently added promising safety prospect A.J. Haulcy in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but they're still otherwise relatively thin at the position behind returning starter Camryn Bynum, so a strong start to training camp could still start Wohler on a trajectory toward earning a depth spot on the 53-man roster for 2026.

  • Colts' Hunter Wohler: Moves to IR

Wohler (foot) was put on injured reserve by the Colts on Monday. The safety and seventh-round pick left Saturday's preseason game against the Packers with the injury and is expected to be out for the season, per Paul Breti of USA Today. Wohler got a chance to start that game with Nick Cross (hip) out, and he was projecting as a possible third safety for the Colts before the injury.

  • Colts' Hunter Wohler: Hurts foot in Saturday's exhibition

Wohler has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay due to a foot injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Hunter got an opportunity to start Saturday with Nick Cross (hip) unable to suit up. However, Wohler joined Cross among an injury-riddled Colts secondary after hurting his foot at some point in the first quarter. Prior to his exit, Wohler notched two tackles (one solo). He's had a solid training camp and is expected to make the roster as a rotational and versatile defensive back if the foot issue doesn't prove to be serious.

  • Colts' Hunter Wohler: Colts pick up Round 7 safety

The Colts selected Wohler in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 232nd overall. Wohler (6-foot-2, 213 pounds) might not have the athleticism to thrive as a starter, but he started two years at Wisconsin and was a productive enforcer type for the Badgers. Wohler could have done worse with his athletic testing (4.57-second 40-yard dash, 6.72-second three-cone drill), so he has a chance to stick as a strong safety for Indianapolis. Wisconsin defenders are often well-coached and have a way of sticking around the league, but Wohler will probably need to earn his initial ticket to playing time on special teams.
