• Texans' Jake Hummel: Recovering from surgery

  Hummel is still recovering from abdominal-groin surgery, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Hummel was placed on injured reserve in late September, and his groin injury was severe enough for him to require a procedure. He's already missed the four-game minimum required while on IR, but it sounds like Hummel still has a lengthy rehab timeline ahead of him. The Texans should provide another health update for the Iowa State product following the Week 8 bye.

  The Texans placed Hummel (groin) on injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Hummel has not practiced since sustaining a groin injury during the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Bills. The linebacker will now miss at least four games on IR before becoming eligible to return to the team's active roster. While Hummel is absent, Jake Hansen should continue to start alongside Azeez Al-Shaair and Aiden Fisher at linebacker.

  Hummel (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Hummel will be sidelined by a groin injury for a second consecutive week. He did not practice during Week 3 prep, so he'll look to return to practice in at least a limited capacity ahead of the Texans' Week 4 home tilt against the Cowboys on Sunday, Oct. 4. Jake Hansen should start alongside Azeez Al-Shaair and Aiden Fisher at linebacker for a second-straight game in Hummel's absence.

  Hummel (groin) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Bengals. Hummel suffered a groin injury during the third quarter of Sunday's 36-31 loss to the Bills. The linebacker is considered week-to-week as he deals with the issue, so the fact he's ruled out for Week 2 is no surprise. Jake Hansen will likely continue to fill in for Hummel for as long as he remains sidelined.

The linebacker will almost certainly miss the Texans' Week 2 game against the Bengals. Jake Hansen will likely start as the second outside linebacker in Hummel's absence, but the team will probably rely on more nickel packages with Jalen Pitre in the slot while Hummel is absent.

After being sidelined the first week of training camp, Hummel is ready to start practicing. The 26-year-old spent the first three years of his career with the Rams before signing with Baltimore in March. He has been a special-teams player throughout the majority of his career and will likely fill a similar role for the Ravens.
