  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Won't return for Week 4

Cosmi (concussion) isn't traveling with the Commanders to London and won't play Sunday versus Indianapolis. Cosmi suffered a concussion in Week 2 against Dallas and wasn't able to play this past Sunday versus Seattle. He's now slated to miss a second straight game while remaining in concussion protocol. With Cosmi out Week 3, Nick Allegretti slid over to right guard while Lucas Patrick started at center.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Ruled out for Sunday

Cosmi (concussion) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Cosmi entered the league's five-step protocol after suffering a concussion during the Commanders' Week 2 loss to the Cowboys. The right guard was unable to be cleared by an independent neurologist, meaning he will be sidelined for Sunday's game. Andrew Wylie or Tanoa Togiai will likely start at right guard in Cosmi's absence.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Enters concussion protocol

Cosmi suffered a concussion in Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Cowboys, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports. Cosmi entered the NFL's five-step concussion protocol following Sunday's game. The starting right guard will need to progress through the protocol before being cleared for game action by an independent neurologist. If Cosmi recovers quickly, the offensive lineman will have a chance to reach full participation in time to play in Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Participating in OTAs

Cosmi was seen participating at Commanders OTAs on Friday. Cosmi was placed on injured reserve in late December with a concussion. The guard's presence at OTAs shows he's back to full health and ready to start the season at right guard as expected.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Lands on injured reserve

The Commanders placed Cosmi (concussion) on injured reserve Monday. Cosmi entered the league's concussion protocol following the Commanders' loss to the Eagles on Saturday. His placement on injured reserve means he won't be available for Washington's final two games of the regular season, so that spot will be filled by either Andrew Wylie or Nick Allegretti for the rest of the 2025 campaign.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Confirmed to have concussion

Cosmi is in concussion protocol following Saturday's loss to Philadelphia, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. Cosmi was pulled late in the fourth quarter Saturday and was evaluated for a concussion. With testing having confirmed that diagnosis, the veteran offensive lineman will need to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol before he can return to action. If Cosmi can't play Christmas Day against Dallas, Andrew Wylie or Nick Allegretti could start at right guard.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Exits with potential concussion

Cosmi (head) exited Saturday's game against the Eagles and did not return, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports. Cosmi was unable to return to Saturday's contest after suffering a head injury late in the fourth quarter. The offensive guard's status for Week 17 will depend on his practice participation. The injury to the 26-year-old means the Commanders' offensive line depth gets even thinner, as the team is already without Laremy Tunsil (oblique). Brandon Coleman (shin) also left Saturday's game with an injury.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Officially listed as questionable

Cosmi (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Dallas, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Cosmi was a full participant at practice the entire week, but he has yet to be activated from the Commanders' reserve/PUP list. If he can't step back in as the starting right guard in Week 7, veteran Andrew Wylie should get another start at that spot.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Designated to return

Cosmi (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The 2021 second-round pick from Texas missed the Commanders' first four games this season after tearing his ACL in January. Cosmi now has 21 days to be added to Washington's active roster before reverting to IR. He's expected to reclaim the team's top right guard spot once healthy.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Coach not closing door on Week 1

Head coach Dan Quinn said Monday that a Week 1 return is "still on the table" for Cosmi (knee), John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Quinn added that Cosmi has hit all the benchmarks thus far in the guard's recovery process from a torn ACL suffered in the NFC divisional round in January. While Cosmi being ready for the start of the regular season hasn't been ruled out as a possibility, that would constitute a much faster than usual return from such an injury, so it's more likely that Cosmi will need additional time to recover. Cosmi is currently on the active/PUP list.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Out with torn ACL

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Sunday that Cosmi will miss the remainder of the playoffs after he sustained a torn ACL during Saturday's divisional-round win against the Lions, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Cosmi was rolled up on and bent back awkwardly during the first half Saturday, and he underwent an MRI on Sunday morning. The standout guard will now likely undergo surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee, which could impact his availability for the start of the 2025 regular season. Expect backup Trent Scott to start at right guard during next Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the winner of the divisional-round matchup versus the Eagles and the Rams.

  • Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Set for MRI

Cosmi will undergo an MRI on Sunday and is expected to miss at least one game after exiting with a right knee injury during Saturday's 45-31 win over the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Cosmi suffered what appeared to be a significant injury when he got his leg rolled up on during the second quarter. Rapoport adds that the 25-year-old offensive lineman will likely be sidelined for an extended period, effectively knocking him out for next Sunday's NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 9, should the Commanders advance. As a result, backup Trent Scott will likely start at right guard for the remainder of Washington's playoff run.
