Love rushed 21 times for 90 yards and brought in all five targets for 19 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' 36-30 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
Sunday may have marked the official crowning of Love as the Cardinals' unquestioned lead back, as he took 19 more carries than veteran backup Tyler Allgeier. All of Love's rush attempts, rushing yardage, receptions, receiving yardage and targets were new season-high figures for the rookie first-round pick, who also recorded his first career receiving touchdown on a one-yard grab early in the fourth quarter. Love's draft pedigree and talent always made an ascension to the lead role a matter of when and not if, and it will be interesting to see how the Notre Dame product fares in what could be a favorable Week 4 road matchup against the Giants next Sunday.

At some point soon, maybe this week, the Cardinals will turn Love loose, and he will look like the superstar running back we saw at Notre Dame. But until that happens, we should only be starting Love as a flex option in the majority of leagues. He continues to play less snaps than Tyler Allgeier (76-52 for the season), and Love has 20 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown and five catches for 25 yards on seven targets in two games against the Chargers and Seahawks. The 49ers defense isn't one to fear -- Kyren Williams and De'Von Achane each scored at least 12.3 PPR points in each game this season -- but Arizona holding back Love is why he's listed in this spot.

Love and the rest of the Cardinals' offense mustered only a combined 151 total yards Sunday. I'm hopeful that was part of the plan to ease Love back into action after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the first preseason game, but that could continue in Week 2 against Seattle. And this is a tough run defense for the Seahawks, who could keep Love in check. I would prefer to use Love as a flex option in most leagues in Week 2.

Per usual, both teams are holding out most of their starters and many key backups for the first game of the NFL preseason.
