VanSumeren has fully recovered from the torn patella tendon he suffered last September with the Eagles. The 26-year-old is expected to serve as the Bills' primary fullback during the upcoming campaign.

The Bills signed VanSumeren (knee) to a one-year contract Wednesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Philadelphia opted not to tender VanSumeren after his third season with the team back in March, but it didn't take long for him to get another shot with a new squad. His 2025 season ended prematurely due to him tearing his patella tendon during the opening kickoff of Week 1, but in the two years prior, his elite speed, strength and explosiveness allowed him to earn opportunities on special teams.

VanSumeren was injured on the opening kickoff Thursday night against Dallas and was carted off the field with what appeared to be a significant knee injury. It's unclear at this point if he has a chance to return in 2025, but VanSumeren will be required to miss at least the next four games.

VanSumeren likely injured his knee during practice this week after popping up on Friday's injury report as a limited practice participant. VanSumeren suffered a concussion in the first half of last Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars and didn't return to the game. However, he's been able to clear the league's five-step concussion protocol and will be able to suit up Sunday. VanSumeren has played exclusively on special teams this season and will likely continue in that role against the Cowboys.
