  • Josh Kelly: Gets look with Houston's practice squad

    The Texans signed Kelly to their practice squad Monday. A second-year wideout from Texas Tech, Kelly is still waiting to make his NFL debut. After joining Houston on a reserve/future contract in January, Kelly was unable to make enough of an impression during training camp and the preseason to secure a spot on the roster, but the Texans will keep him around in the organization as a member of the practice squad.

    The Texans waived Kelly on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Kelly participated in all three preseason games, catching seven of his 10 targets for 72 yards. The Texans plan to add the young wide receiver to the team's practice squad if he can clear waivers.

    The Texans signed Kelly to a reserve/future contract Tuesday. Kelly spent the entire 2025 season on the Texans' practice squad after failing to make the Cowboys' 53-man roster at the end of training camp in late August. He didn't appear in a regular-season game, but by signing a future contract, he'll be on Houston's 90-man roster for the offseason and will be eligible to participate in OTAs and minicamp.

The undrafted rookie out of Texas Tech finished the preseason with two catches (on six targets) for 25 yards across 68 offensive snaps in three games.
