Jason Brownlee: Back with Gang Green on taxi squad
Rotowire
The Jets signed Brownlee to their practice squad Friday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.
Brownlee was let go from the Jets' 53-man roster Wednesday after tight end Brenden Bates was claimed off waivers. Brownlee began 2023 on the Jets' practice squad and played in seven regular-season games, finishing his rookie campaign with five catches (on eight targets) for 56 yards and one touchdown. Mike Williams (knee) and Irvin Charles (hip) are both dealing with injuries, and if either of them cannot suit up for the Jets' season opener against the 49ers on Sept. 9, Brownlee would be a prime candidate to be elevated to the active roster.

Jason Brownlee: Waived to make room for new TE
Rotowire
Brownlee was waived by the Jets on Wednesday
Brownlee made the initial 53-man roster Tuesday but was subsequently waived to make room for incoming tight end Brenden Bates, whom the Jets claimed on waivers from Chicago on Wednesday. If Brownlee passes through waivers unclaimed, he will likely be added to the Jets' practice squad, where he began his rookie season last year before ultimately dressing for seven regular-season games.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Catches TD in preseason opener
Rotowire
Brownlee caught one of two targets for a 12-yard touchdown in Saturday's 20-17 preseason win over the Commanders.
Brownlee couldn't come down with a contested deep ball from Tyrod Taylor in the first quarter but caught a fade in the end zone from Andrew Peasley for a 12-yard touchdown in the second. Brownlee appeared in seven games for the Jets in 2023 after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent, but he finds himself on the roster bubble heading into 2024 after the team bolstered its receiving corps in the offseason. This was a promising start in Brownlee's quest to make the team, and he'll look to build off this performance next Saturday against the Panthers.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Turns in full practice
Rotowire
Brownlee (ankle) was listed as a full participant for Thursday's walk-through practice, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
With a full practice under his belt, Brownlee should be on track to put an end to his two-game absence this Sunday against the Commanders. In his previous three outings before suffering the ankle injury, Brownlee saw an expanded role on offense but recorded just two catches for 20 yards on two targets over 105 snaps.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Will be sidelined again Week 15
Rotowire
Brownlee (ankle) has been ruled out of Sunday's clash with the Dolphins, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Brownlee suffered an ankle injury against Atlanta in Week 13 and will now miss his second straight game. He didn't practice at all this week, so his status for Week 16 against Washington could be in doubt as well. Brownlee logged only two offensive snaps prior to Week 11, but his role was on the rise prior to the injury, as he had played on over half of the Jets' offensive snaps in two straight contests.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Ruled out for Week 14
Rotowire
Brownlee (ankle) won't play Sunday against the Texans.
Brownlee didn't practice in any capacity throughout the week after being injured in this past Sunday's loss to the Falcons. With Brownlee sidelined Week 14, Allen Lazard will likely draw the start opposite Garrett Wilson on the perimeter, with Xavier Gipson manning the slot for a Jets offense that will have Zach Wilson back under center against the Texans.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: First NFL receptions Friday
Rotowire
Brownlee caught both of his targets for 20 yards in Friday's 34-13 loss to the Dolphins.
With fellow wide receiver Allen Lazard (coach's decision) inactive, Brownlee played all but one of New York's 58 offensive snaps while working on the outside opposite Garrett Wilson. The undrafted rookie out of Southern Miss made his first two NFL catches. Brownlee had appeared in two previous games and played 21 offensive snaps without being targeted. With the 4-7 Jets falling out of the playoff race, they may start placing a greater emphasis on getting the ball to young players such as Brownlee moving forward.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Inactive Monday
Rotowire
Brownlee (coach's decision) will be inactive for Monday's season-opening game against the Bills.
Although Brownlee made enough of an impression during the offseason to go from undrafted free agent to sticking on the roster, he will be inactive for his first career game. He will attempt to continue making an impression at practice going forward and await his next opportunity to suit up in Week 2.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Two catches in preseason finale
Rotowire
Brownlee caught two of four targets for 25 yards in Saturday's 32-24 preseason win over the Giants.
Brownlee was outplayed by fellow undrafted rookie Xavier Gipson, who caught seven of 10 targets for 79 yards in New York's preseason finale. That difference in production could prove significant, as Brownlee and Gipson may be competing over one roster spot at wide receiver. It's still possible that both youngsters make the team, as the Jets don't have any obvious keepers at the position behind Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard (shoulder), Mecole Hardman (finger) and Randall Cobb.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Two catches against Panthers
Rotowire
Brownlee caught two of three targets for 10 yards in Saturday's 27-0 preseason win over Carolina.
Brownlee tied for the team lead in targets as the Jets spread the ball around, but he was quiet for a second consecutive preseason outing, which hasn't helped the undrafted rookie's chances of securing a roster spot. Still, with nobody else stepping up and an opening to be seized if the Jets plan to carry six wide receivers on the 53-man roster, Brownlee's at least within striking distance of making the team. He could improve his odds of sticking around with a better performance in the next preseason game, Aug. 19 against the Buccaneers.

Jets' Jason Brownlee: Making push for roster spot
Rotowire
Brownlee has been a standout performer for the Jets in camp, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Brownlee went undrafted out of Southern Miss, but the Jets gave him $246,000 guaranteed to sign, which is similar money to a fifth-round pick and suggests Brownlee had a robust post-draft market. Since coming to New York, Brownlee has drawn rave reviews for his performance in OTAs, and he has carried that momentum into training camp. If he can sustain his early camp success in preseason, Brownlee will likely earn himself a spot on the Jets' 53-man roster.

Rotowire
Brownlee is expected to sign with the Jets as an undrafted free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
