  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: No usage in passing game in Week 15

Lewis went without a target in Sunday's 38-13 loss to the 49ers while playing six of the Bears' 53 snaps on offense. Lewis has suited up in each of Chicago's first 13 games of the season, but he's played more than 20 snaps on offense on just one occasion and has logged only one target on the campaign. Rather than representing a viable pass-catching threat, the 40-year-old tight end -- the second-oldest player in the NFL -- brings most of his value as a positive locker-room presence and as a reliable blocker at this stage of his career.

  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: Intends to re-sign with Bears

Lewis is meeting with Chicago on Monday with the intention of re-signing for the 2024 season, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports. Lewis appears set for a second campaign in Chicago after playing in all 17 regular-season contests last season. He's regarded as one of the league's top blocking tight ends and sprinkled in some contributions as a receiver in 2023, catching four of five targets for 29 yards and a score. His Week 16 touchdown was notable in that it made him the oldest tight end in NFL history to record a receiving score. Lewis turned 40 years old in May and will be embarking upon his 19th professional campaign in 2024. He's unlikely to make a significant impact on offense or in fantasy, but he'll boost the Bears offense with his blocking while serving as a positive locker room presence.

  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: Set for free agency

Lewis played 33 percent of the snaps but was not targeted in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Lewis, a 39-year old blocking specialist, ended the season catching four passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. With 14 NFL seasons on his resume, he's now an unrestricted free agent.

  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: Scores first touchdown of 2023

Lewis hauled in a one-yard touchdown in the Bears' 27-16 win over the Cardinals on Sunday. On the season, Lewis has posted four catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. The veteran tight end has seen significant snaps all season as a blocker, but it's likely that he continue to see limited targets.

  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: Third catch of season in win

Lewis caught a four-yard pass in the Bears' 28-13 win over the Lions on Sunday. Lewis is primarily a blocking specialist. He's caught three of four targets for 28 yards on the season.

  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: First catch of season

Lewis caught his lone target for eight yards in the Bears' 31-28 loss to the Broncos on Sunday. Lewis is a blocking specialist who saw his first target of the season. It's unlikely he earns a regular role as a receiver unless his role changes.

  • Bears' Marcedes Lewis: Joining Chicago

Lewis is signing with the Bears, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Eugene Frenette of jacksonville.com notes that the 39-year-old will set an NFL record for most seasons played by a tight end (18) if he ends up playing any regular-season games in 2023. That's presumably what will happen, though Lewis doesn't figure to catch many passes in an offense that already has Cole Kmet and former Packers teammate Robert Tonyan at tight end. Lewis caught 57 passes in 81 games with Green Bay over the past five seasons, mostly serving as a blocker in heavy formations.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Remains key cog in 17th season

Lewis was targeted seven times and caught six passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns over 17 appearances in the 2022 season. The 38-year-old made little fantasy impact in his 17th season, but he did play at least 41 percent of offensive snaps for a fourth year in a row. Lewis remains a trusty blocker at the tight end position, and if he elects to continue playing, the free agent will likely land a roster spot in Green Bay or elsewhere.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Finds end zone in win

Lewis caught both his targets for 32 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-20 win over the Dolphins. While he didn't see big volume, the veteran tight end made a huge impact for the Packers. Lewis' first catch gave Green Bay its first TD of the day on a one-yard strike from Aaron Rodgers, while his second reception went for 31 yards and set the team up in the red zone for an eventual AJ Dillon one-yard scoring plunge. Lewis has two touchdowns on the season -- the 10th time in his 17-year career he's scored multiple TDs -- but this was the first time in 2022 he's seen more than one target in a game.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: No injury designation for Week 4

Lewis doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's contest against the Patriots, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Lewis didn't practice Thursday and was limited Wednesday and Friday, but the veteran tight end will still be available for Week 4. The 2006 first-round pick has yet to be targeted this season despite playing over 35 percent of the team's offensive snaps in each of the first three games.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Will play Sunday

Lewis (groin) is active Sunday against the Buccaneers, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports. Lewis logged limited practices Wednesday and Friday with a DNP on Thursday. The veteran tight end has yet to be targeted this season despite playing 38 and 47 percent of the offensive snaps in the first two weeks respectively.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Not targeted Week 1

Lewis was not targeted in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Lewis -- along with Robert Tonyan -- was one of two Packers tight ends to start the opener, and he wound up leading all Packers tight ends with 23 snaps. However, Lewis was limited to blocking duties only and did not see a pass in his direction. The 38-year-old will continue seeing snaps, but don't expect him to contribute to your fantasy team.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Plays in every game in 16th season

Lewis was targeted 28 times and caught 23 passes for 214 yards over 17 appearances in the 2021 season. Lewis has not been a fantasy factor for awhile, but he filled a steady role for the Packers in 2021, appearing in every game and serving as the team's top blocking tight end. The 16-year veteran signed a two-year contract with the Packers last month, so he figures to return to Green Bay for another go-around.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Off COVID list

Lewis was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and will be eligible to play Sunday against the Vikings. The veteran tight end has played at least 24 offensive snaps in seven of the last eight games and has accumulated 14 receptions for 106 yards during that stretch, so his absence would have been noteworthy. Expect Lewis to reprise his role as a blocker extraordinaire with Josiah Deguara acting as the primary tight end.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Hits COVID list

Lewis has landed on the Packers' reserve/COVID-19 list. Lewis apparently tested positive for the virus according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. For him to return to the Packers' Week 17 matchup with the Vikings, he will need to clear the NFL's health and safety protocols. If he is unable to return, Tyler Davis and Dominique Dafney would be next in line at tight end behind Josiah Deguara.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Snap count declines

Lewis was targeted three times and caught two passes for two yards in the Packers' 24-22 victory over the Browns in Week 16. After racking up at least 40 yards in back-to-back outings Lewis made only a blip in the box score in Week 16. Part of that may have been due to reduced opportunities, as his snap-count percentage declined from 50 to 41 percent. Lewis will have a chance to find the end zone in Week 17 against a Vikings team that allowed opposing tight ends to tally five touchdowns over its last six games, but with him taking a back seat to Josiah Deguara in Week 16 after splitting the work with him in the six games prior to that, his chances of helping those still alive in their fantasy leagues are slim.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Busy against Bears

Lewis was targeted four times and caught four passes for 51 yards in Sunday's 45-30 victory over the Bears. Both the reception and yardage totals were season highs for Lewis, who played 55 percent of the snaps Sunday after being on the field for fewer than 40 percent of the plays the Packers ran over the two weeks leading up to their Week 13 bye. While Lewis had his best game of the season, he still split tight end duties with teammate Josiah Deguara, so his fantasy value hasn't been altered significantly. Lewis will have the matchup in his favor in both Weeks 15 and 16, but considering he racked up a total of 13 yards over the four games prior to Sunday, he remains on the fringes in fantasy circles.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Targeted twice in victory

Lewis was targeted twice and caught two passes for 10 yards in Sunday's 17-0 victory over the Seahawks. Lewis was on the field for more than half the plays the Packers ran Week 10, but even with starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning, he was limited mainly to blocking duties like he usually is. Chances are Rodgers at least will try to find Lewis in the end zone at some point, as several times over the past two seasons the veteran tight end was rewarded for his thankless work. However, don't expect that to happen Week 11, as the Packers face a Vikings team that hasn't allowed opposing tight ends to find the end zone even once all season.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: Limited to one Week 9 catch

Lewis was targeted once and caught one pass for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 13-7 loss to the Chiefs. Lewis led Packers tight ends in snaps against Kansas City, but he spent most of the day providing added protection for Jordan Love, who was blitzed heavily in his first pro start. Lewis figures to continue spending most of his time blocking, but with top pass-catching tight end Robert Tonyan (knee) out for the season, Lewis could see a few more passes in his direction once starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers (illness) is back at the helm.

  • Packers' Marcedes Lewis: More work with Tonyan out

Lewis is in line for more work following Robert Tonyan's diagnosis of a torn ACL, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports. Coach Matt LaFleur said the Packers will take a "by-committee" approach at tight end following the loss of Tonyan for the rest of the season. Lewis may not be in line for a jump in targets, but his share of the offensive snaps could bump up from the 40-50 percent that he's earned in most of the team's eight games so far. Along with Lewis, Josiah Deguara, Dominique Dafney and Tyler Davis will be the TE considerations for Green Bay.
