Henne announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account shortly after the Chiefs' 38-35 win over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII that he will retire from professional football.
Though starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to aggravate his Grade 2 high right-ankle sprain late in the second quarter of the Super Bowl, Henne's services ultimately weren't needed in the second half while Mahomes played through the pain and guided Kansas City to victory. Henne previously relieved an injured Mahomes for a brief spell in the divisional-round matchup with the Jaguars, stepping in to direct a touchdown drive before the star signal-caller returned to action. The 37-year-old Henne will walk away from the game as a two-time Super Bowl champion, with both titles coming during his five-year stint with the Chiefs. Prior to his time in Kansas City, Henne entered the NFL as a second-round pick of Miami in 2008, spending four years with the organization before a six-year stopover in Jacksonville. Henne retires with a 59.6 percent completion rate for 13,290 yards, 60 touchdowns and 63 interceptions to go with 351 rushing yards and four scores on the ground over his 78 career regular-season appearances.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Unneeded in AFC Championship Game
Rotowire
Henne didn't see any action Sunday in the Chiefs' 23-20 win over the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.
When starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain in the aftermath of the Chiefs' Jan. 21 win over the Jaguars in the divisional round, Henne looked as though he at least be would in line for increased work with the first-team offense in practice ahead of the AFC Championship Game. However, Mahomes ended up taking on all his usual work in practice and was able to handle all 66 of the Chiefs' snaps on offense Sunday, playing at close to his usual effectiveness despite being visibly hobbled by the ankle issue. Henne, who completed five of seven attempts for 23 yards and a touchdown in relief of Mahomes for a brief spell in the divisional round, likely won't be needed in the Super Bowl unless Mahomes succumbs to a setback with the ankle or picks up another injury in the Chiefs' upcoming matchup with the Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Returning as Mahomes' backup
Rotowire
Henne agreed Wednesday to re-sign with the Chiefs on a one-year, $2 million contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Henne has proven capable of commanding Kansas City's offense in emergency circumstances across his five-year stint with the team, so his re-signing doesn't come as any sort of surprise. Of course, Henne only really carries fantasy intrigue as a roster handcuff to Mahomes, and even then only in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Sees action in relief
Rotowire
Henne completed 11 of 16 pass attempts for 82 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-3 loss to the Titans.
Henne entered the game late in the fourth quarter in relief of Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a head injury. Mahomes was cleared of a concussion and told the media after the game that he was feeling fine, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. That likely means Henne will find himself back on the bench for a Week 8 matchup against the Giants, though it will be worth monitoring Mahomes' practice participation throughout the week.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Starting Week 17
Rotowire
Head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Henne will start the Chiefs' Week 17 game against the Chargers, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
With the Chiefs having already secured the AFC's No. 1 seed in the playoffs, Reid confirmed he would rest some key starters Week 17, most notably Patrick Mahomes. Henne has already made two appearances this season in garbage time, but Sunday's game against the Chargers will mark his first start since 2014.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Staying with Kansas City
Rotowire
Henne agreed to a two-year deal with the Chiefs on Monday, Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports.
The 34-year-old missed the first two months of the season after fracturing his ankle in August, and he slotted in behind Matt Moore -- who the Chiefs coerced out of retirement -- once he returned from injured reserve in early November. Henne never saw game action in 2019, but he seems likely to enter the 2020 campaign as the top backup to Patrick Mahomes.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: No action in 2019
Rotowire
Henne did not record an offensive snap during the 2019 season.
Henne served as the No. 3 option on Kansas City's roster behind Patrick Mahomes and Matt Moore in 2019. Even during the three-game span in which Mahomes was sidelined due to a dislocated kneecap, Henne's duties never extended beyond serving as Moore's backup. The 34-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Off IR, listed as questionable
Rotowire
Henne (ankle) has been activated off injured reserve and is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Vikings.
Henne, who fractured his ankle toward the end of August, returned to practice near the end of October, ultimately setting the stage for his midseason return. Considering the Chiefs waived backup Kyle Shurmur on Saturday, it seems likely Henne will be available to back up Matt Moore in the likely event Patrick Mahomes (knee) misses a second consecutive week.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Still weeks away
Rotowire
Henne is still weeks away in his recovery from a fractured ankle, Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports.
Henne isn't eligible to return from IR until Week 9, so his earliest opportunity to suit up will come Nov. 3 against the Vikings. With Patrick Mahomes (kneecap) likely facing a multi-game absence, Henne could be a candidate to take snaps when back to full health. In the meantime, Matt Moore is the top candidate to start under center Week 8 for the Chiefs.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Tosses three passes in Week 17
Rotowire
Henne saw his first action of 2018 in Week 17 against the Raiders, completing two of his three passes for 29 yards.
Barring injury, Henne is slated to serve as the team's backup throughout the playoff run and possibly next season as well. The veteran quarterback should continue to serve as a mentor for second-year star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but he should see very little in terms of playing time outside of the preseason if he remains on the 53-man roster in 2019.

Chiefs' Chad Henne: Delivers serviceable outing in preseason opener
Rotowire
Henne completed eight of 14 passes for 91 yards with a touchdown and an interception during Thursday's preseason loss to the Texans.
Henne did exactly what he was brought in for Thursday evening, providing a stable presence to the backup position in what was a rather lackluster evening for both offenses involved. There's little doubt who will serve as Patrick Mahomes' top backup this season. Though Chase Litton and Matt McGloin both remain on the roster for preseason, the duo is likely competing to be the third quarterback kept through roster cuts.

Chad Henne: Joining KC
Rotowire
Henne is signing a two-year deal with the Chiefs, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Henne made 53 starts for the Dolphins and Jaguars from 2009 to 2014, but he's attempted just two passes the last three years while sitting behind Blake Bortles in Jacksonville. The 32-year-old now heads to Kansas City, where he'll serve as backup and mentor for 2017 first-round pick Patrick Mahomes. The Jaguars are left with Bortles as the only quarterback on their roster.

Jaguars' Chad Henne: Questionable for Week 3
Rotowire
Henne (illness) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
Henne was a surprise addition to the injury report, although it's likely his illness isn't anything serious. If he isn't able to play Sunday, look for Ryan Nassib to take over as the backup quarterback.

Jaguars' Chad Henne: Will enter regular season as backup
Rotowire
Coach Doug Marrone announced Saturday that Blake Bortles will enter the regular season as the Jaguars' starting quarterback, which means Henne will serve as his backup, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.
The situation was thought to be up in the air as recently as Thursday, so something must have happened to convince Marrone to give Bortles the starting job. Expect him to be on a short leash however, which means Henne could still potentially find his way to the field should Bortles struggle early.

Jaguars' Chad Henne: May play in preseason finale
Rotowire
Coach Doug Marrone said Thursday that Henne may play in the Jaguars' preseason finale with the team's starting quarterback situation still undecided, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official sitereports.
Henne got the start Thursday and played the entire first half, but he didn't perform well enough to definitively secure the starting role. He went eight-of-14 for 73 yards with no interceptions or touchdowns, and he was sacked three times. With Jacksonville's starting quarterback gig still up for grabs, look for Henne and Bortles to get one more shot apiece in the Jaguars' preseason finale against the Falcons.

Jaguars' Chad Henne: Turns in solid second half
Rotowire
Henne completed seven of 18 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, adding five carries for six yards, in Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals.
Henne played the entire second half, leading Jacksonville to a pair of touchdowns on six drives, and eventually kneeling twice to end the game. He doesn't have competition for the No. 2 quarterback job, though the Jags might retain sixth-round rookie Brandon Allen as a developmental project.

Jaguars' Chad Henne: Re-signs with Jaguars
Rotowire
The Jaguars and Henne agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract Thursday, Rand Getlin of NFL Network reports.
Henne hasn't taken a snap since the midpoint of Week 3 during the 2014 season, but his experience under offensive coordinator Greg Olson provides the Jaguars with an insurance policy for Blake Bortles.

Report: Jags QB Blake Bortles expected to start Thursday
Rotowire
Despite being listed as questionable, Jaguars rookie quarterback Blake Bortles is expected to start Thursday's game against the Titans, reports the Florida Times-Union. Bortles will try to play through a mid-foot sprain that had him in a walking boot earlier this week.
He's thrown just two touchdown passes in his last five games. Chad Henne would start if Bortles can't play.

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley revealed Monday quarterback Blake Bortles will be considered questionable for Thursday's game against the Titans due to a right midfoot sprain. Bortles played all of Sunday's 20-12 loss at Baltimore.
If Bortles is unable to play Thursday, Chad Henne would start in his absence. Henne started the first three games for Jacksonville this season.
