The news comes as a major shock, as Bishop just completed his first conditioning game with AHL Texas and was expected to start again for the affiliate Saturday. He allowed eight goals on 34 shots and mentioned after the game that his knee felt fine for the first two periods but was a little sore in the third. The 35-year-old last played an NHL game in 2020 and spent over a year trying to return from surgery, but his degenerative knee condition ultimately was too much to overcome. Bishop finishes his career having posted fantastic numbers (222-128-36, .921 save percentage, 2.32 GAA) with St. Louis, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Dallas.
