Canucks' Matthew Stienburg: Signs two-way contract
Stienburg signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks on Thursday.
After getting his first taste of NHL action during the 2024-25 campaign by making eight regular-season appearances with the Avalanche, Stienburg played exclusively in the minors last year. He was limited to eight regular-season appearances with AHL Colorado last season while dealing with an injury, and he recorded two goals, an assist and 11 PIM. He'll likely spend most of his time in the minors during the 2026-27 campaign.

Stienburg inked a one-year, two-way contract with Colorado on Friday, according to Meghan Angley of Guerilla Sports.

Avalanche's Matthew Stienburg: Suspension served
Steinburg has finally served his two-game suspension that was handed down back in October.
After getting hit with a two-game ban, Steinburg was relegated to the AHL for the rest of the regular season, making him ineligible to serve out his suspension. While the 24-year-old center is now technically available to suit up against Dallas in Game 3 on Wednesday, he figures to be the longest of shots to actually play in the postseason.

Avalanche's Matthew Stienburg: Up from AHL
Stienburg (suspension) was recalled from AHL Colorado on Saturday, per the NHL media site.
On Oct. 31, Stienburg received a two-game suspension for charging Tampa Bay's Erik Cernak in a 5-2 loss. The 24-year-old Stienburg spent the remainder of 2024-25 in the minors, but he will serve his suspension in the NHL playoffs.

Avalanche's Matthew Stienburg: Given two-game suspension
Stienburg has received a two-game suspension for charging Tampa Bay's Erik Cernak during Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning.
Stienburg will be eligible to return for Thursday's tilt against Winnipeg. The 24-year-old has no points, 22 PIM and 16 shots in eight outings in 2024-25. To say the Avalanche have more than a normal amount of unavailable forwards would be a huge understatement. The Avalanche currently have nine available forwards on their active roster, not including Oliver Kylington, who is a defenseman but served as a forward Wednesday. Colorado will likely recall T.J. Tynan before Saturday's match versus Nashville, but the Avalanche might need to promote more than just him unless Jonathan Drouin (upper body), who is day-to-day, is ready to return.

Avalanche's Matthew Stienburg: Sent down Thursday
Stienburg (suspension) was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Thursday.
Stienburg's suspension will only count when he's on the NHL roster, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Avalanche call him up before Saturday's game versus the Predators. Stienburg is eligible to play in the AHL should he remain at that level. In any case, he won't play an NHL game prior to Nov. 7.

Avalanche's Matthew Stienburg: Set for hearing with league
Stienburg will have a hearing Thursday with the Department of Player Safety for charging the LIghtning's Erik Cernak.
The last thing the Avs need right now is another missing forward, even a bottom-six player like Stienburg. The 24-year-old Nova Scotia native was assessed 17 minutes of penalties in Wednesday's matchup with the Bolts and now will likely be suspended for at least Saturday's game against Nashville, if not longer.
