Panthers' Chris Brazzell: Rookie year officially over
The Panthers placed Brazzell (knee) on injured reserve Friday.
Brazzell will officially miss his entire rookie season due to the LCL tear he suffered during Wednesday's training camp practice. The rookie third-round pick will undergo surgery and set his full attention on making a recovery for the 2027 campaign. In the wake of this transaction, Xavier Legette and John Metchie are the top candidates to secure the No. 3 wide receiver role in Carolina behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker.

Panthers' Chris Brazzell: Done for season
Brazzell (knee) will soon have season-ending surgery on the LCL tear he suffered Wednesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Initial reports suggested Brazzell would miss around two months, but that was assuming he could recover without surgery. After getting a second opinion, Brazzell will undergo surgery and presumably spend the entirety of his rookie season on injured reserve. With the 2026 third-round pick out of the equation, Xavier Legette and John Metchie are the strongest candidates for the No. 3 WR role behind locked-in starters Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. The timing of Brazzell's injury (July 29) should allow him to come back at full health for Carolina's offseason program in 2027.

Panthers' Chris Brazzell: Could miss up to eight weeks
Brazzell (knee) suffered an LCL tear in his left knee at practice Wednesday that could sideline him up to eight weeks, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Brazzell went down while participating in 7-on-7 drills Wednesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports, during his first practice since knee soreness caused him to log a two-day absence. Per Person, his LCL injury is unrelated to that earlier soreness. While Brazzell will likely be able to retake the field during his rookie season, an injury forcing him to miss presumably the rest of training camp, and potentially also regular-season time, is a notable blow. The rookie third-round pick had been putting together impressive momentum and had seemingly been positioning himself to challenge Xavier Legette for the No. 3 wide receiver role in Carolina.

Panthers' Chris Brazzell: Aggravates knee injury
Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Wednesday that Brazzell (knee) has aggravated the same knee injury that caused him to miss the team's last two practices, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports.
Brazzell had to be helped off the field and carted to the locker room upon after retaking the practice field Wednesday, so it's encouraging that his initial injury prognosis isn't more severe. The rookie third-round pick will work to get back to full health before returning to practice at a later date in training camp. However, Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports that Brazzell will undergo further evaluations on his left knee.

Brazzell suffered an apparent left leg injury during Wednesday's practice and is being helped off the field by teammates, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Brazzell missed a few days of practice due to knee soreness that manifested Sunday, and upon returning to action Wednesday he's now suffered what seems to be a left leg injury. The rookie third-round pick reportedly is unable to put any weight on his left leg and will be carted to the locker room. The Panthers will work to diagnose the severity of Brazzell's current injury before providing an update.

The injury doesn't appear to be a long-term concern, with head coach Dave Canales telling reporters Sunday that holding Brazzell out of practice was more of a precautionary move. Brazzell was selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and he is competing with Xavier Legette, John Metchie and 2025 sixth-rounder Jimmy Horn for the WR3 role behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker.

Panthers' Chris Brazzell: Competing with Legette
Brazzell is slated to compete with Xavier Legette for wide receiver reps during training camp, Anthony Rizzuti of USA Today reports.
Brazzell, a rookie third-rounder, will compete with a 2024 first-round pick in Legette for No. 3 wide receiver opportunities behind Tetairoa McMillan (ankle) and Jalen Coker. Per Rizzuti, Brazzell impressed during spring and summer workouts with Carolina, and if he's able to keep up that momentum during training camp it wouldn't be out of the question for him to jump up the depth chart and surpass Legette, who has failed to live up to expectations through his first three seasons. Brazzell totaled a 62-1,017-9 line across 12 games in 2025 at Tennessee, where he earned All-American Third-Team and All-SEC First-Team honors.

Panthers' Chris Brazzell: Chosen by Carolina
The Panthers selected Brazzell in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 83rd overall.
Brazzell posted an impressive 4.37-second 40-yard dash time at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, and that speed -- coupled with a 6-foot-4 frame -- served him well during his four-year college career. He spent his final two years in Tennessee and was named to both the All-American Third-Team and All-SEC First-Team in 2025 after catching 62 passes for 1,017 yards and nine touchdowns across 12 games. Brazzell has no trouble getting to top speed, making him a dangerous deep threat that can win any jump ball, though his route-running tree and run blocking will both need to improve at the NFL level. With 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan leading the Panthers' pass-catching group, Brazzell's main competition for targets from QB Bryce Young will come from Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette.
