Chavez (2-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings of relief in a 12-0 victory over the Nationals. He struck out three without walking a batter. The 41-year-old righty took the mound to begin the second inning after Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) was removed from the game. Chavez has been erratic in the second half, posting a 5.28 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB through 15.1 innings since the beginning of August, and Chavez's low-leverage, middle-relief role gives him minimal fantasy upside. Should Lopez miss any starts to close out the regular season, Chavez isn't likely to be considered as a rotation replacement, other than as part of a bullpen day.

Chavez (1-2) took the loss and was charged with his first blown save of the season Monday against Milwaukee, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk over one inning of relief. He failed to strike out a batter. The 40-year-old righty entered the game in the sixth inning with Atlanta ahead 2-1, but a Willy Adames three-run homer put the Brewers in the lead for good. Chavez has served up eight long balls in 46.1 innings this season, but he's still managed to post a sharp 2.33 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB in a lower-leverage role.

Chavez has a 1.21 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB through 29.2 innings over 23 appearances this season. The 40-year-old right-hander is on his fourth stint with Atlanta during his 17-year career, and Chavez is once again proving to be a valuable piece of the team's bullpen. His low-leverage role limits his fantasy value -- he has zero saves or holds, and his only win came back on March 30 -- but he's worked more than an inning in four of his last seven appearances, helping to keep the team's higher-leverage options fresh.

Atlanta selected Chavez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Chavez was inked to a minor-league deal earlier this week with the expectation that he would eventually be added to the big-league roster. The veteran reliever should operate in a long relief role with Atlanta.

Chavez signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training. An erroneous report had Chavez to the Twins on a big-league deal after his release by the White Sox over the weekend, but he will end up back with Atlanta instead. The veteran has enjoyed a great deal of success with the team two of the past three seasons, though he missed most of the second half last year with a shin injury and was left off the NLDS roster. Chavez could replace Jackson Stephens as the long-relief option in the Atlanta bullpen.
