The Angels placed Chafin on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, with left triceps inflammation. Chafin has been effective out of the bullpen since joining the Angels at the trade deadline, posting a 1.98 ERA and 1.17 WHIP alongside an 18:7 K:BB over 13.2 innings. However, he'll now be unavailable for the next two weeks after coming away from his latest appearance with a triceps issue, leaving just enough time for him to potentially come back for the final weekend of the regular season. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the opening in the Halos' bullpen.

The Angels acquired Chafin and right-hander Luis Garcia from the Nationals on Wednesday in exchange for left-hander Jake Eder and first baseman Sam Brown, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Chafin holds a 2.70 ERA over 20 innings with the Nationals this season, but a 1.60 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB suggest he's been the beneficiary of some good fortune in terms of run prevention. The 35-year-old will give the Angels another lefty in the bullpen.

Chafin (1-0) picked up the win Monday over the Reds, working a perfect sixth inning. He didn't strike out a batter. The veteran lefty was one of six Nationals relievers to take the mound after starter Jake Irvin couldn't escape the fourth inning, and Chafin was credited with the win even though Washington never trailed in the game. He's been tagged with just one run in seven appearances since returning from a hamstring strain in early July, posting a 1.50 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 2:0 K:BB over 6.0 innings during that stretch. With the Nats expected to be motivated sellers at the trade deadline, Chafin could find himself landing with a contender before the end of the month.

The Nationals activated Chafin (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Thursday. Chafin missed almost three weeks with a right hamstring strain but has been cleared to return after throwing a simulated game earlier this week. The lefty reliever will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back into the Nationals' bullpen.

Chafin (hamstring) threw a simulated game before Tuesday's game was postponed due to rain, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. The veteran southpaw has been sidelined since June 8 due to a strained hamstring. Chafin isn't expected to need a rehab assignment, and if he doesn't have any issues following Tuesday's session, he could be activated from the IL later this week.
