The Royals released Renfroe on Wednesday. Renfroe went unclaimed on waivers after being DFA'd by Kansas City on Friday, and he'll now be pushed out of the organization. The 33-year-old outfielder was in the midst of the worst season of his career, slashing .182/.241/.242 across 108 plate appearances, and he's unlikely to attract more than a minor-league offers at this point.

The Royals designated Renfroe for assignment Friday. Renfroe opened the season with a regular role in Kansas City's outfield, but he started just eight of 20 games in May and has now been removed from the big-league roster. The 33-year-old struggled to a .182/.241/.242 slash line in 108 plate appearances after fading to a .689 OPS in 120 contests last year. Given that production, plus what remains of his $7.57 million salary for 2025, Renfroe is a safe bet to pass through waivers unclaimed.

Renfroe is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. Renfroe will come off the bench for the fourth time in the last five games and appears to be falling into a reserve role for the Royals. Drew Waters is making the start in right field and batting seventh against starter Dean Kremer. Renfroe is off to a miserable start at the plate this season, slashing .167/.243/.197 with no home runs, four RBI, and a 7:16 BB:K across 74 plate appearances.

Renfroe is out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive game, as his leash appears to be shortening after a tough start to the season. The veteran right fielder is slashing just .177/.257/.210 with just two doubles, zero home runs, four RBI and a 7:14 BB:K across 70 trips to the plate. Drew Waters is in right field and batting seventh Tuesday.
