• Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Not pitching in season finale

  Manager John Schneider said Friday that Bassitt won't start Sunday's game against Miami, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Bassitt was slated to start the Blue Jays' final game of the 2024 season, but the 35-year-old right-hander will be rested instead. Schneider didn't name a replacement starter. Bassitt finishes the campaign with a 4.16 ERA -- his worst since 2016 -- along with a 1.46 WHIP and 168:70 K:BB across 171 innings (31 starts).

  Bassitt (10-14) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and seven walks over 4.1 innings against the Red Sox. He struck out two. Bassitt walked a career-high seven batters and failed to complete five innings for the second consecutive start, allowing single runs in the second, third and fourth innings prior to being pulled with one out and two men on in the fifth. The 35-year-old righty holds a 4.16 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, the first time his ERA has moved above four and his WHIP above 1.24 since 2016. Bassitt is in line to make one more start on the final day of the regular season against the Marlins.

• Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Let down by defense

  Bassitt allowed seven runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Tuesday. A pair of Toronto errors, including one by Bassitt himself, helped minimize the damage to his ERA. The Blue Jays would recover from the deficit Bassitt created, which helped him avoid taking the loss. Still, he wasn't very sharp with just 48 of his 80 pitches landing for strikes. Since the All-Star break, he's been charged with four or more runs in six of his 11 outings, alternating between decent and poor performances the whole time. The right-hander is now at a 4.16 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 166:63 K:BB through 166.2 innings over 30 starts this season. Bassitt's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Rays.

  Bassitt (10-12) picked up the win in Tuesday's 6-2 victory over the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out eight. The veteran right-hander gave up three singles in the first inning to bring home a run, but Bassitt was dominant after that, leaving the mound after 101 pitches (63 strikes) with his 12th quality start of the year. It's his first win since Aug. 6, and in 10 starts since the All-Star break he's gone 2-6 with a 5.50 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 64:15 K:BB through 55.2 innings. Bassitt will look to string together consecutive victories for the first time since early June in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Rangers.

• Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: No support in tough-luck loss

  Bassitt (9-13) took the loss against Boston on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings. Bassitt was excellent in the outing, racking up 17 whiffs and tying a season high with nine punchouts while holding Boston to just a first-inning run. However, the Blue Jays' offense couldn't muster up any support, as the team was held to three baserunners and zero runs. Though Bassitt was saddled with his third loss in his past four outings, he did register his first quality start over that span. He's pitched to a 4.27 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 149:57 K:BB through 151.2 innings on the season.
