Massey went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-2 victory over the Athletics. Massey capped the regular season swinging well, tying his season high with four hits -- his second four-hit effort in the past five games. Even with that strong finish, it's been a rough year for the utility man, who battled multiple injuries and struggled when on the field, slashing .244/.268/.313 with nine doubles, three homers and 20 RBI across 77 games.

Massey hadn't been in the lineup since Saturday, with two of his three games out of the lineup coming against left-handed pitchers. The lefty-hitting second baseman has two multi-hit efforts over his last three games but looks set to end the year in a timeshare as the Royals also try to keep Adam Frazier and Jonathan India involved at the keystone. Massey has posted an uninspiring .233/.258/.300 slash line with three home runs, two steals, 19 RBI and 17 runs scored over 268 plate appearances this season.

Massey set a new career best by tallying four hits in this contest while driving home four for the fourth time. His performance was highlighted by a 393-foot, two-run blast off Toronto starter Max Scherzer in the opening frame. Massey, who is currently fills a bench role in Kansas City, is now slashing .231/.257/.300 with three homers, 19 RBI and 16 runs scored across 262 total plate appearances.
