General manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday that Brash was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain in his right lat, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports. Brash has suffered multiple right lat strains this season, though Hollander noted that his latest injury is in a different spot than the one that kept him out for three weeks in May. He also said that the 28-year-old righty is facing a longer stint on the IL this time around and is likely to return sometime around late July or early August. Until then, Jose Ferrer, Gabe Speier and Eduard Bazardo figure to work more often in high-leverage situations.

Brash has returned to Seattle to have his right lat strain evaluated further, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Brash missed most of May with a strained lat and then went back on the 15-day injured list Wednesday after aggravating the injury. More should be known about a timetable once he's looked at by doctors in Seattle, but manager Dan Wilson acknowledged Thursday that there is "going to be a little bit more time down" for Brash during this second IL stint.

The Mariners placed Brash on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right lat strain. Seattle recalled right-hander Domingo Gonzalez from Triple-A Tacoma to take Brash's spot in the bullpen. Brash has served as one of the top setup arms in front of closer Andres Munoz this season, notching three wins and six holds while accruing a 0.54 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 16.2 innings over his 20 appearances.

Brash (lat) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Brash resumed throwing off the mound earlier this week and is now ready to test things out in a game setting. The setup reliever has been out for all of May with right lat inflammation but appears close to a return if he can avoid a setback.

Brash (lat) began playing catch Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. It's the first time Brash has done any kind of throwing since he landed on the injured list Friday with right lat inflammation. A clearer timeline for his return may begin to take shape once he progresses to throwing off a mound.
