  The Marlins placed Perez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Thursday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Seth Martinez, who has been claimed off waivers. Perez has been throwing off a mound and doing well as he continues his rehab from Tommy John surgery, but he is not expected to join the Marlins' rotation until around midseason.

  Perez (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday, working in his changeup along with fastballs, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The young right-hander is aiming to rejoin the Marlins' rotation around the All-Star break after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2024. "I'll say I feel very good right now," Perez said after Friday's session. "I will say 75 percent, just to put it out there in a number. But we're doing very well, just getting better." Perez began playing catch last September, and so far his recovery is proceeding as planned. In his absence, Valente Bellozo, Max Meyer and Adam Mazur are the leading candidates to fill out the back of Miami's rotation.

• Marlins' Eury Perez: Aiming to return by All-Star break

  Perez (elbow) is hoping to rejoin the Marlins' rotation by the All-Star break, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. The 21-year-old right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last April, so a July 2025 return would be right on schedule. Perez displayed his considerable upside over 19 starts during his big-league debut in 2023, striking out 108 batters over 91.1 innings en route to a 3.15 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. but a Marlins team that's highly unlikely to be in playoff contention in 2025 won't have much incentive to be aggressive with his recovery timeline.

  Perez (elbow) threw light toss on flat ground Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Tuesday marks the first time Perez has done any sort of throwing since he underwent Tommy John surgery in April. He obviously has a lot more work to do before he's ready to return to a major-league mound, but it's certainly encouraging to see him making progress in the right direction. The 21-year-old righty is expected to rejoin the Marlins' rotation midway through the 2025 campaign.

• Marlins' Eury Perez: Shifts to 60-day IL

  The Marlins transferred Perez (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday. The transaction came just a few hours after president of baseball operations Peter Bendix announced that Perez would undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery Monday. By transferring the 20-year-old right-hander to the 60-day IL, the Marlins were able to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for utility player Otto Lopez, whom Miami claimed off waivers from San Francisco on Thursday.
