  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Hits first homer since return

Voit went 2-for-5 with a home run and an additional RBI in Monday's 11-inning win over Kansas City.

The two teams engaged in a scoreless tie for six frames before Voit broke the stalemate with a seventh-inning RBI single. In the ninth, the slugger again untied the contest with a solo shot to right field. The long ball was his fourth of the season and his first since returning to the active roster Sunday. Voit is slashing .239/.321/.385 overall in what has been an injury-plagued campaign.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Royals' Carlos Santana: Rough day at plate

Santana went 0-for-6 with a strikeout in Monday's 8-6 extra-innings loss to the Yankees.

It's rare for the first baseman to fail to get on base in some way -- he has a .341 on-base percentage and 14.6 percent walk rate this season. Santana has gone 10 games without a multi-hit effort, going just 5-for-38 (.132) with six walks and three runs scored in that span. All five hits in his slump have been singles.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Not starting Monday

Vaughn will be on the bench for Monday's game against the Twins.

The White Sox's outfield has gotten considerably more crowded recently, with Luis Robert (hip) returning Monday to join Eloy Jimenez (pectoral), who made his season debut in late July. Vaughn could slip into a lesser role down the stretch, as his off day Monday will be his second in three games, though his 1.073 OPS over his last 16 games suggests he deserves to be in the lineup as often as possible. Leury Garcia starts ahead of him in left field on this occasion.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Reaches 35-homer plateau

Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.

Guerrero continues to destroy opposing pitchers and reached the 35-homer plateau in style, blasting a two-run shot in the fifth inning off Garrett Richards in the fight inning. The star first baseman ended a six-game homer drought with his blast and continues to deliver value as one of the game's elite offensive threats this year.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: On base three times

Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and a walk as the White Sox beat the Cubs 9-3 on Sunday.

Vaughn smacked his 16th homer of the season in the first inning, walked in the third and singled home a run in the seventh. It was the second time in his last four contests in which he reached base three times. The young outfielder has now reached base 10 times in 20 plate appearances over his last five games, raising his slash line to .264/.331/.460.

  • Chris Gittens 1B | HOU

Yankees' Chris Gittens: Initiates rehab assignment

Gittens (ankle) reported to Double-A Somerset on Sunday to begin a rehab assignment.

Gittens has been on the shelf since July 25 with a sprained right ankle, but he'll likely only need a few games in the minors to convince the Yankees he's fully healthy. Even if the Yankees elect to keep Gittens up with the big club once he's reinstated from the 10-day injured list, he'll likely be limited to a depth role at first base behind Luke Voit, who is set to take over as the club's primary first baseman while Anthony Rizzo (illness) is on the COVID-19 IL.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: Not starting Sunday

O'Hearn is out of the lineup Sunday at St. Louis, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

O'Hearn will sit for the second straight contest while the Royals are without the services of a designated hitter in a National League park. Hunter Dozier will start in right field Sunday while Hanser Alberto works at third base.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Placed on concussion IL

Mountcastle (concussion) was placed on the 7-day injured list Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Mountcastle is feeling better Sunday but continues to exhibit concussion-like symptoms after taking a hard tag to the head Friday, so he'll spend some time on the injured list. He'll be eligible to rejoin the active roster during next weekend's three-game set at Boston.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Out of Sunday's lineup

Diaz is not in the lineup Sunday against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz started the past two games and clubbed his eighth homer of the season Saturday, but he'll take a seat for the series finale in Baltimore. Joey Wendle will start at the hot corner in his place.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Starting in return from IL

Voit (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday and is starting at first base against the Mariners, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

The 30-year-old appeared in three rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will quickly rejoin the big-league club with Anthony Rizzo sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19. Voit has been injured for most of the season and lost out on the everyday role at first base thanks to the acquisitions at the trade deadline, but he'll have the chance to start, at least briefly, with RIzzo out for the immediate future. Voit has a .698 OPS in 29 big-league games this season, while he went 3-for-11 with a home run during the brief rehab stint.
