Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Saturday return expected

Dalbec (hamstring) is expected to remain sidelined Friday with expectations that he will return Saturday. "[Friday], most likely, he won't play. We're shooting for Saturday with him," manager Alex Cora said Thursday.

Dalbec has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury, and Cora doesn't feel he'll be ready for Friday's series opener in Oakland. Danny Santana and Michael Chavis filled in for Dalbec at first base the last two games.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Moves to 3B mid-game

Vaughn moved from left field to third base after Yoan Moncada (hand) was removed from Thursday's game against the Twins in the fourth inning.

Vaughn handled the assignment cleanly for four innings before he was replaced by Leury Garcia (undisclosed) in the eighth. Garcia had been scratched from the original starting lineup due to an undisclosed injury; that appears to be the reason why he wasn't brought in initially to replace Moncada. Instead Vaughn, a first baseman that's been converted to left field this season, played third base for the first time in the majors. The move appears to be a temporary one, as the fact Garcia felt well enough to enter the game suggests his undisclosed injury is not serious. In addition, the White Sox are considering calling up Jake Burger, a natural third baseman.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nate Lowe: Goes deep twice

Lowe went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, three RBI, two runs and a walk in Thursday's win over the Athletics.

Lowe connected for a solo blast off starter Sean Manaea in the fourth inning and added a two-run shot off Deolis Guerra in the seventh, his 11th and 12th round-trippers of the year. Lowe hit just two home runs during the entire month of June, although he was able to maintain some fantasy value with a .365 on-base percentage during that stretch. Lowe is slashing .260/.360/.424 in 336 plate appearances overall this season and has driven in 43 runs.

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Snaps RBI drought

Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional run and RBI in Wednesday's 13-3 win over the Twins.

Vaughn's home run -- one of six on the day for the White Sox -- put Chicago up 3-1 in the second inning. He would add a sacrifice fly to his ledger in the fifth inning, allowing him to establish a new single-game career high in RBI. The rookie had driven in only two runs over his previous 18 games combined.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Remains sidelined

Dalbec (hamstring) remains on the bench Thursday against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Dalbec had two hits in both of the first two games of the week before sitting Wednesday due to hamstring tightness. He'll remain on the bench for at least one more game, though manager Alex Cora said Dalbec will be available to pinch hit in the series finale, according to Bill Koch of The Providence Journal.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Homer, three runs in win

Abreu went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 13-3 win over the Twins.

The blast was Abreu's 13th but just his second over the last 26 games, a span during which he's batted .188 with just nine RBI. The slump leaves the first baseman with a career lows in average (.241), slugging (.440) and OPS (.768).

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Clubs third homer

Diaz went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

Diaz's first-inning long ball off Jon Lester marked his first homer since June 18 and just his third of the season. After belting 14 home runs in 2019, Diaz has gone deep just five times dating back to the beginning of the abbreviated 2020 season.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Dealing with hamstring tightness

Dalbec isn't starting Wednesday's game against Kansas City due to right hamstring tightness, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Dalbec drew two consecutive starts at first base, but he apparently suffered a hamstring injury Tuesday. Manager Alex Cora said the 26-year-old might not be available off the bench so he gets additional time to recover.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Riding pine Wednesday

Dalbec isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Royals, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Dalbec went 4-for-7 with a homer, three runs and a strikeout across the last two games, but he'll get a breather Wednesday. Michael Chavis will shift to first base while Marwin Gonzalez starts at the keystone.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Gets cortisone shot Tuesday

White (hip) received a cortisone injection Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

The recovering first baseman took some time recently to determine the next steps in his recovery, and he apparently opted to go with the injection as a means to reduce inflammation and discomfort for the time being. The timeline for White's potential return to a rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma will likely be determined before the week is out.
