  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: To take batting practice Friday

Olson (hand) will take batting practice for the first time since undergoing surgery Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

This is another step in the right direction for Olson, who's expected to embark on a rehab assignment sometime during Oakland's current road trip (April 26 to May 5). He remains on track for a mid-May return, barring any major setbacks.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Hitting fifth in debut

Guerrero is starting at third base and hitting fifth in his big-league debut Friday at home against the A's.

He slots right into the heart of Toronto's lineup, as expected. Randal Grichuk and Rowdy Tellez will hit third and fourth, respectively, while Billy McKinney and Teoscar Hernandez hit sixth and seventh. The A's are starting Mike Fiers and his 8.28 ERA, so there could be a lot of fireworks in Toronto during Guerrero's highly anticipated debut.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Officially called up

Guerrero's contract was selected by the Blue Jays on Friday.

The long wait is finally over. After hitting .331/.413/.531 in 288 minor-league games, the 20-year-old is poised to take over an everyday role at third base in Toronto with the potential to immediately be one of the best hitters in the big leagues. Richard Urena was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Hits sixth homer

Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two RBIs and a walk in the Angels' 11-5 win over the Yankees on Thursday.

It was a big day from atop the order for the veteran outfielder, who touched up Masahiro Tanaka with a two-run shot in the sixth inning for his sixth long ball of the year. While his power production so far is decent, Calhoun is struggling overall to start the season, as his slash line still sits at .185/.279/.424 following this performance.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: Hitless since return

White is 0-for-10 over his first two games at Double-A Arkansas since his return from a minor-league injured list stint due to a hip flexor issue.

White's injury came at a particularly inopportune time in that he'd started the season off with a .308/.367/.385 line over his first seven games. The hope was that his stay on the shelf wouldn't cool off his bat, but for the moment, it appears that's what may have transpired. Given his prior body of work at both Low-A Everett and High-A Modesto the last two seasons, however, White would appear to have the ability to bounce back in relatively short order.

  • Rangers' Asdrubal Cabrera: Exits with calf issue

Cabrera was removed from Thursday's game against Seattle due to left calf tightness.

Cabrera just returned to the lineup Monday from a shoulder issue, so another injury certainly won't help his rhythm at the dish. Given the nature of the injury, the 33-year-old shouldn't require a stint on the injured list and will be considered day-to-day until further notice.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: New season high in RBI

Calhoun went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Wednesday in the Angels' 6-5 loss to the Yankees.

Calhoun's fifth long ball of the season gave the Angels a 5-0 advantage, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead as Los Angeles lost for the ninth time in 10 games. Though Calhoun has been largely disappointing this season, he deserves little blame for the team's ongoing struggles, as he's provided three home runs during that losing skid while reaching base at a .341 clip.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Set for MLB debut Friday

Guerrero will be called up from Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Friday's game against the Athletics, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.

There were some reports over the weekend that Guerrero would be called up Tuesday, but instead he'll end up making his MLB debut Friday. The 20-year-old continued to tear it up at Buffalo since recovering from the oblique injury sustained in spring training by slashing .360/.429/.640 in 28 plate appearances. Guerrero should slot into an everyday role at third base and occupy a prominent spot in the batting order.

  • Justin Bour 1B | SF

Angels' Justin Bour: Heads to bench

Bour is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees.

Bour was able to hit his second home run of the year Tuesday, a grand slam off Chad Green, but will head to the bench against lefty CC Sabathia. Bour has appeared in the lineup twice against lefties this season and should continue to have days off against southpaws going forward. Albert Pujols will get the start at first and hit cleanup while Kevan Smith will check into the lineup as the designated hitter.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

    Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Gets breather

Gurriel is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel has started 13 straight games for the Astros, slashing .235/.298/.392 with a homer and seven RBI during that stretch. Aledmys Diaz is starting at first base and hitting seventh in his stead Wednesday.
