The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

After being called up from Nashville last Tuesday, Black got a look in a near-everyday role, starting in five of the Brewers' ensuing seven games. However, the 23-year-old managed just five hits while striking out eight times in 22 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues, prompting the Brewers to pull the plug on him with Christian Yelich (back) returning from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Black should continue to see regular playing time at Nashville and will likely be one of the top options for a call-up if the Brewers need an extra corner infielder at any point.

Goldschmidt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets.

Goldschmidt is hitless in May and the Cardinals have discussed the possibility of giving him a few days off to clear his head and have him work on his approach at the plate. However, it's not yet clear whether his absence from the lineup Wednesday is the first of multiple days off, or just a one-off matter. Alec Burleson will handle first base in Goldschmidt's stead.

Joe will start in right field and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Joe will be included in the lineup for the fifth game in a row, with the 31-year-old having made three starts at first base and two in right field. He should be a mainstay in the lineup against southpaws as a short-side platoon mate at first base for the lefty-hitting Rowdy Tellez, and Joe has made a strong case to see steady playing time against right-handed pitching as a corner outfielder. Joe enters Wednesday's contest with a team-best 131 wRC+ on the season, while Michael Taylor owns a 53 wRC+ and would seemingly be most at risk of moving out of a near-everyday role, despite being the Pirates' best defensive outfielder.

Wade went 1-for-2 with three walks and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Rockies.

Wade reached base four times and produced a key two-run single in the fourth to extend the Giants' lead to 4-0. Wade strictly operates in a platoon against right-handed pitching, though if he had enough plate appearances to qualify, he'd be leading the majors with a .485 OBP and 21.4 percent walk rate. He's now reached safely in eight straight games and is slashing .351/.485/.442 with a homer, 10 RBI, 12 runs and a 21:26 BB:K in 101 plate appearances.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Tuesday that the team has considered sitting Goldschmidt for a few games as the first baseman works on his swing, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

It doesn't sound like anything has been decided on Goldschmidt, with Marmol noting the club is "evaluating everything in order to get him right." In six games so far in May, Goldschmidt is 0-for-23 with a 10:3 K:BB. He's slashing just .196/.287/.263 on the season with a 30.9 percent strikeout rate. If the Cards do elect to give Goldschmidt a little break, Alec Burleson would likely handle first base.

Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Cardinals.

Alonso finally showed some signs of life at the plate Tuesday night after breaking out of a slump. Before his two-RBI double in the fifth, Alonso had one hit over his last 41 at-bats. He later followed things up with a huge insurance home run in the eighth to put the Mets up 7-4. Alonso is now slashing just .212/.297/.445 with nine homers, 19 RBI, 22 runs and a 14:32 BB:K in 155 plate appearances, though Tuesday's outburst showed some welcoming signs that his offense could be emerging once again.

Hoskins went 1-for-5 with a solo home run during Tuesday's 6-5 win over Kansas City.

Hoskins provided the Brewers' first run of the game, leading off the second inning with a solo home run. Even with Tuesday's long ball, Hoskins is batting 4-for-27 (.148) in his last eight games.

Busch went 2-for-4 with a walk-off solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Padres.

Busch's seventh home run of the season was his biggest to date, as he took Enyel De Los Santos deep in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cubs to victory. The slugging first baseman has been solid with an .816 OPS across 35 games, and his seven long balls are second on the team. Busch will likely continue to sit against lefty starters, but he's an impact bat against righties.

Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base Monday in a 6-3 victory versus the Cubs.

Cronenworth's first theft of the campaign came as part of a double steal with Fernando Tatis in the sixth inning, and both players subsequently came home on a Jurickson Profar single. Cronenworth doesn't typically offer much in terms of speed, though he did swipe a career-high six bags last season. The first baseman is working on a 10-game hitting streak during which he has slashed .357/.378/.690 with three homers, 10 RBI and seven runs.

Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Marlins in Monday's 6-3 win.

Though his long ball didn't travel nearly as far, Freeman followed Shohei Ohtani in the first inning Monday as the pair slugged back-to-back homers. Freeman has yet to fully flex his power this season -- he has just three homers through 167 plate appearances -- but he's been otherwise productive, as usual, with a .292/.407/.445 slash line, 21 RBI, 18 runs and a stolen base. The veteran first baseman is also tied for seventh in the league with 10 doubles and tied for fifth with 24 walks.
