  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Padres' Garrett Cooper: Not starting Sunday

Cooper is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Cooper has been operating as San Diego's primary first baseman over the past couple weeks, and he's succeeded in the role with an .805 OPS in his last 11 games. Matt Carpenter will start at first and bat seventh for Sunday's series finale versus San Francisco.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Draws third straight start

Montero will start at first base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Montero will pick up his third consecutive start Sunday, this time facing off against right-hander Kevin Gausman after he had previously re-entered the lineup versus a pair of southpaws to begin the series with Toronto. Following his call-up from Triple-A Albuquerque last weekend, Hunter Goodman had displaced Montero as the team's everyday first baseman, but manager Bud Black has now deployed Goodman at designated hitter and in right field for the rookie's last two starts. With Michael Toglia now sitting out for a third straight game and Goodman getting looks elsewhere, Montero looks like he'll settle back in as the Rockies' primary first baseman. Montero enters Sunday's contest with a .417/.488/.694 slash line over his past 11 contests.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sitting in third straight

Toglia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

The switch-hitting Toglia finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row, this time versus Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman after he had been excluded from the lineup against a pair of southpaws in the first two contests of the series. Dating back to Aug. 9, Toglia is slashing .127/.186/.291 with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate over a stretch of 17 games, and his ongoing slump may have prompted manager Bud Black to pull the plug on the youngster in an everyday role. Elehuris Montero will pick up a third straight start Sunday at Toglia's expense.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: On bench Sunday

Walker (elbow) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Walker exited Saturday's contest with a right elbow contusion after being hit by a pitch and will be sidelined for at least one game. The 28-year-old already had X-rays come back negative, so he appears to have avoided a serious injury and should be considered day-to-day. Pavin Smith is starting at first base Sunday for Arizona.

  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Pirates' Alfonso Rivas: Sits against lefty Sunday

Rivas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Rivas will take a seat for the second day in a row while the Pirates oppose another lefty (Zack Thompson) in the series finale. The righty-hitting Connor Joe will spell the lefty-hitting Rivas at first base.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Manning first base Sunday

Bohm is starting at first base and batting fifth Sunday against the Brewers.

Bohm is 1-for-11 with a double, a walk and two runs over this past three games and will shift over to first base after being at the hot corner for those three contests. Since the start of August, the 27-year-old has a .252/.315/.459 slash line with five homers, 16 RBI and 21 runs in 28 games.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Not starting Sunday

Bohm is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Milwaukee.

Bohm is 1-for-11 with a double and a walk over the past three games and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale. Edmundo Sosa will man the hot corner and bat ninth.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | TEX

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Idle against southpaw

Tellez isn't in the Brewers' lineup Sunday against Philadelphia.

With lefty Ranger Suarez set to start for the Phillies, Tellez will retreat to the bench Sunday. William Contreras will serve as Milwaukee's designated hitter with Victor Caratini behind the plate, and Carlos Santana will start at first base.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: X-rays negative

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Walker sustained a right elbow contusion during Saturday's loss to the Orioles, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Walker was hit by a pitch on the elbow, and X-rays following the game indicated he may have dodged a more serious injury. "X-rays (were) negative, which is great," Walker said. "Just a ton of nerve pain." The injury was initially described as right hand discomfort because the pitch hit a nerve in the elbow and resulted in numbness in the hand and fingers. Walker is not expected to play Sunday, but he was encouraged by the initial results.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Padres' Garrett Cooper: Blasts three-run homer

Cooper went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Giants.

The Padres led from the first inning on, with Cooper's blast in the sixth solidifying their advantage. The first baseman started off a bit slow with San Diego, but he's gone 14-for-41 (.341) with a homer and seven RBI over his last 11 contests. He's picked up playing time since Jake Cronenworth (wrist) went on the injured list. Cooper is a lock to be in the lineup versus southpaws, but he's also gained a starting role against right-handers over the last week.
