  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Goes deep again

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs.

Alonso's first-inning, two-run homer was initially ruled a double, but it was confirmed to have cleared the center-field fence upon review, giving him three long balls in two days. After a tough start to the second half, the 28-year-old slugger has returned to form, boasting a remarkable 1.171 OPS over his last 17 games, including eight home runs, 22 RBI and 12 runs scored in 73 plate appearances during that stretch.

  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Heads to bench amid struggles

Montero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Montero's stretch of eight consecutive starts will come to an end Wednesday as utility man Cole Tucker replaces him in the lineup for the series finale. Though injuries to Kris Bryant (finger) and Charlie Blackmon (hand) have opened up everyday playing time for him, Montero has yet to take advantage of the opportunity. Since being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on July 25, Montero is hitting .195 with three extra-base hits (one home run, two doubles) and a 46.5 percent strikeout rate in 11 games.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Tacks on three more hits

Freeman went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Freeman has multiple hits in seven of his last nine games, going 20-for-38 (.526) in that impressive span. The first baseman leads the majors and ranks second with a 1.016 OPS through 112 contests. He's batting a stellar .343 with 23 home runs, 81 RBI, 100 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in what could end up being a career year for one of baseball's most consistent players.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Drives in four

Flores went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two additional RBI in Tuesday's loss against the Angels.

Flores accounted for four of the Giants' five runs Tuesday, plating Luis Matos and LaMonte Wade on a third-inning single and swatting a two-run homer off Dominic Leone in the eighth. The outing marked Flores' fourth multi-hit effort in his last five games, while the long ball was his fifth in his last 18 appearances. Over that 18-game stretch, Flores is 27-for-67 (.403) with 15 RBI and 12 runs scored while striking out at a 13.3 percent clip.

  • Alec Bohm 3B | PHI

Phillies' Alec Bohm: Sitting Game 2

Bohm isn't in the Phillies' lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Washington.

Bohm went 1-for-4 with a home run during Game 1 of Tuesday's action and will take a seat for the nightcap. Rodolfo Castro will start at the hot corner in Bohm's place and bat sixth.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Nationals' Dominic Smith: Sitting out nightcap

Smith isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

After a 3-for-4 performance during Game 1 of Tuesday's action, Smith will catch a breather for the second game. Joey Meneses will fill in at first base, moving Keibert Ruiz into the DH spot and Riley Adams in behind the dish while batting fifth.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Brewers' Carlos Santana: Out with illness

Santana isn't starting Tuesday against Colorado due to illness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Santana is slashing .167/.205/.310 with two homers and three RBI across 10 games as a Brewer. He'll be considered day-to-day as he fights off his illness, and Mark Canha will step in as Milwaukee's first baseman Tuesday.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Sitting against lefty

Votto is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand will start at first base and bat seventh with the Marlins throwing left-hander Braxton Garrett. Kevin Newman is serving as the Reds' designated hitter and batting fifth. Votto will grab some rest after hitting his second homer in as many days in Monday's series opener versus Miami.

  • Matthew Batten 3B | ATL

Padres' Matthew Batten: Optioned back to Triple-A

San Diego optioned Batten to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Batten slashed .261/.320/.391 over 13 games (25 plate appearances) during his four-week stay on the Padres' major-league roster. Jose Azocar has been called up in a corresponding move.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Goes deep again

Votto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-2 win over Miami.

Votto launched his second home run in as many games. It was the second of back-to-back shots to lead off the fourth inning. The slugging first baseman's last four hits have all been home runs and nearly half his knocks this season -- 13 of 27 -- have left ballparks.
