  • Brewers' Jon Singleton: Officially promoted

The Brewers selected Singleton's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

With Darin Ruf (knee) headed to the 10-day injured list, Singleton will play in the majors for the first time since 2015 and serve as Milwaukee's backup first baseman. Singleton is slashing .258/.384/.483 with 10 homers and 29 RBI through 216 plate appearances with Nashville, but he likely won't make a big enough impact in Milwaukee to become a fantasy asset.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Pirates' Carlos Santana: Three hits in return

Santana went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 7-5 win over the Cardinals.

The veteran switch hitter missed the Pirates' last three games due to back trouble, but he seemed 100 percent healthy in Friday's comeback victory. Santana hadn't had a multi-hit performance since May 4, however, so it's possible his back was an issue longer than he'd been letting on. Since the beginning of May, the 37-year-old is slashing just .193/.299/.301.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Smashes eighth homer

Wade went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 loss against the Orioles.

Wade smacked his first homer since May 10, ending a 20-game drought. Despite the power outage, Wade has rebounded in 2023 with an .866 OPS after posting a .664 OPS in 2022. Like his entire career, Wade is a great option against right-handed pitching with a .910 OPS this season. However, his OPS is just .661 against lefties, designating him to a platoon role.

  • Brewers' Jon Singleton: Joining team Saturday

Singleton will have his contract selected from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

The 31-year-old first baseman will have a chance to play in the majors for the first time since 2015 with Darin Ruf (leg) headed for the IL. Singleton was signed to a minor-league contract over the winter, and he hit .258 with 10 homers and an .867 OPS over 178 plate appearances with Nashville. He could see time at first base as well as designated hitter while he's with the Brew Crew, but isn't likely to see much action.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Playing with stiff neck

Freeman is hitting second and playing first base against the Yankees on Friday, but he is dealing with some neck stiffness, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.

Freeman was outstanding in May, posting a .400/.462/.722 slash line along with six homers over 132 plate appearances. The first baseman will play through the neck issue for now, but Freeman could get extra rest days if it continues to bother him.

  • Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL

Padres' Alfonso Rivas: Contract selected by Padres

Rivas had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso by the Padres on Friday.

Rivas will join the Padres in San Diego ahead of their four-game series with his former team, the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old has produced a .319 average with eight homers, 33 RBI, 40 runs and four stolen bases over 163 at-bats with El Paso this season. In a corresponding move, Jose Azocar was sent down to Triple-A on Friday.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Pirates' Carlos Santana: Returns to lineup

Santana (back) is starting at first base Friday against the Cardinals, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Santana was forced to miss three games after exiting Sunday's game against Seattle with back tightness, but the 37-year-old first baseman will return to action Friday. Santana has been struggling at the plate as of late, slashing .176/.288/.294 over the past three weeks.

  • Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting against lefty

Tellez is out of the lineup Friday against the Reds.

Darin Ruf will cover first base and bat leadoff with left-hander Brandon Williamson getting the start for Cincinnati. William Contreras is taking a DH day while Victor Caratini catches.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Sitting third straight

Cooper isn't starting Friday against Oakland, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Friday will mark the third consecutive game Cooper has missed as a result of his cold stretch at the plate. Meanwhile, Yuli Gurriel will make his fifth consecutive start at first base, indicating that the starting job may be his for now.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Slated for rehab assignment

Votto (shoulder/biceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Votto started his initial rehab assignment in early April, but it quickly became obvious his surgically repaired left shoulder and bicep weren't ready. The veteran first baseman has been ramping up his workouts in recent weeks and now feels ready to give it another shot. How many games he might need isn't yet clear, but a lengthy rehab stint seems probable. Once he's deemed ready, Votto figures to be used both at first base and designated hitter.
