Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Swipes bag, knocks in two
Rivas knocked a two-run single and stole a base in his lone plate appearance against the Pirates on Thursday.
Rivas didn't start the contest, but he was called upon to pinch hit in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old came through with a clutch single that plated two runs and gave Chicago a short-lived lead. Since being recalled from the minors June 18, Rivas has gone 7-for-18 (.389) with a home run, seven RBI and five runs in six games.

Luke Voit 1B | NYM
Padres' Luke Voit: Managing hamstring soreness
Voit isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies due to hamstring soreness, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Voit has been an everyday player for the Padres this season, and he's out of the lineup Thursday for the first time since May 24. Manager Bob Melvin said that Voit could have played, but the team wanted to be safe by keeping him out of the starting nine. The 31-year-old should be considered day-to-day for now.

Luke Voit 1B | NYM
Padres' Luke Voit: Riding pine Thursday
Voit isn't starting Thursday's game against Philadelphia.
Voit will get his first day off in nearly a month after he slashed .286/.444/.571 with a home run, three doubles, four RBI and three runs over the last six games. Jorge Alfaro is serving as the designated hitter while Austin Nola starts behind the plate.

Jake Cronenworth 1B | SD
Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Receives rare day off
Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Cronenworth started the past 33 games and will head to the bench for only the second time all season. He has a 1.029 OPS through 22 games in June, though he's 0-for-9 with two runs over the past two contests. CJ Abrams will start at the keystone with Ha-Seong Kim manning shortstop.

Alfonso Rivas 1B | STL
Cubs' Alfonso Rivas: Idle against lefty
Rivas is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates.
With a lefty (Jose Quintana) on the mound for Pittsburgh as the two teams close out their series with a day game after a night game, the lefty-hitting Rivas will give way to P.J. Higgins at first base. Following Frank Schwindel's (back) recent placement on the 10-day injured list, Rivas should have a temporary hold on the primary job at first base. Rivas likely solidified his spot atop the temporary depth chart by going 2-for-4 with a grand slam and an additional run and RBI in Wednesday's 14-5 win.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Resting Thursday
Votto is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.
Votto will take a seat for the day game after a night game as Reds manager David Bell rolls out an all-right-handed lineup to counter Dodgers southpaw Clayton Kershaw. Brandon Drury will fill in at first base for Votto, who went 2-for-8 with a double between the first two contests of the series.

Freddie Freeman 1B | LAD
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Clubs seventh homer
Freeman went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Reds.
His seventh-inning solo shot off Ross Detwiler put the Dodgers in the lead for good. Freeman is in the midst of a six-game hit streak during which he's batting .458 (11-for-24) with two doubles, a triple and two homers, boosting his slash line on the season to .302/.385/.485 with seven home runs, six steals, 42 RBI and 44 runs through 67 contests.

Christian Walker 1B | HOU
Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Launches 19th homer
Walker went 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-4 loss to the Padres.
His seventh-inning shot off Nick Martinez was too little, too late for Arizona. Walker remains streaky, but with multi-hit efforts in three of his last four games he appears to be heating up. On the season, the 31-year-old sports a .208/.304/.490 slash line with 19 homers and 37 RBI through 69 contests.
-
Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Snaps power drought
Tellez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a pair of walks in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.
Tellez drew multiple walks for the third time in four games. He also snapped a homer drought that dated back to May 29, a span of 20 contests without a long ball. The first baseman has maintained a productive .253/.328/.467 slash line through 66 contests, and he's up to 11 homers, 40 RBI, 25 runs scored and 16 doubles this year.

Paul Goldschmidt 1B | NYY
Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers in return
Goldschmidt (back) went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Goldschmidt sat out a game to deal with back tightness. He returned as the designated hitter Wednesday and promptly launched his two-run shot in the first inning. He's swatted six of his 17 homers this year in June, and he's sporting an excellent .339/.418/.623 slash line with 60 RBI, 50 runs scored and three stolen bases across 67 contests. Goldschmidt should be able to return to the field soon, as his absence Tuesday was deemed precautionary.
