Mets' Pete Alonso: X-rays negative after HBP
Alonso (elbow) had negative X-ray results after taking a pitch to the elbow and exiting Wednesday's game in San Francisco, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
That Alonso didn't exit the game immediately after getting hit suggested he avoided a major injury, and the X-ray confirmed as much. He should be considered day-to-day, and it's unclear whether he'll be available for Thursday's series opener in Los Angeles.

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Could return Friday
Manager Joe Girardi said Hoskins (groin) is doing better and could be activated off the injured list Friday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
The Phillies were originally targeting a return for Hoskins during the series against the Diamondbacks, but it now appears the earliest he could be activated is Friday's series opener versus the Padres. Brad Miller should continue to fill in at first base until Hoskins officially rejoins the active roster.

Mets' Pete Alonso: Exits after HBP
Alonso was removed from Wednesday's game against the Giants after taking a pitch to the elbow, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

Mets' Pete Alonso: Socks two-run shot Tuesday
Alonso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's loss against the Giants.
Alonso was responsible for all the offense the Mets mustered in Tuesday's loss with a two-run bomb in the eighth inning off Logan Webb, and now the slugging first baseman has 26 homers on the season. He endured an 0-for-21 slump earlier this month but he's bounced back with hits in five of his last six games, hitting .280 in a stretch in which he's also gone yard twice.

C.J. Cron 1B | BOS
Rockies' C.J. Cron: Homers again
Cron went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a single in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Padres.
After walking it off against San Diego on Monday, Cron picked back up where he left off with another long ball. This time he victimized Tim Hill in the seventh inning to spot the Rockies an insurance run. After hitting .206 in July, the first baseman is hitting .408 in August with seven home runs and 22 RBI.

Jake Cronenworth 1B | SD
Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Homers in loss
Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a single in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Rockies.
Cronenworth was one of three Padres to homer off Colorado starter German Marquez in the seventh inning Tuesday night. The utility man is hitting .321 in the month of August with more RBI (13) than strikeouts (eight).

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Won't return before Thursday
Manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that Hoskins (groin) will remain on the 10-day injured list through Wednesday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Hoskins has been targeting a return at some point during the series in Arizona, but based on Girardi's update, he won't be activated until the final game in the desert at the earliest. Brad Miller is set to fill his void at first base again Tuesday and that is likely to be the case until Hoskins is reinstated.

Keston Hiura 2B | LAD
Brewers' Keston Hiura: Activated at Triple-A level
Hiura was activated from the COVID-19 list at Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.
It's been a frustrating year for Hiura, but he's at least now through his two-week COVID-related absence. There doesn't appear to be a role available for him at the major-league level at the moment, but he'll at least now be able to get back into game action in the minors.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Achieves career milestone
Votto went 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run Monday in the Reds' 14-5 win over the Cubs.
After concluding the weekend series in Philadelphia with a pair of hitless games, Votto resumed his second-half surge in the Reds' blowout win in the series opener versus Chicago. Votto's second base knock of the night in the bottom of the seventh -- and his first of two singles in the Reds' eight-run inning -- went down as the 2,000th hit of his career and allowed him to join Hall of Famer Johnny Bench as the only players in franchise history with 2,000 hits and 300 home runs in Cincinnati uniforms. The 37-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable renaissance since the All-Star break; he leads the majors with 15 second-half home runs and is batting .339 over the past month.
