  • Braves' Freddie Freeman: Blasts 26th homer

Freeman went 3-for-4 with a walk and a three-run home run in Monday's 12-2 rout of the Marlins.

He took Paul Campbell deep in the fourth inning, part of a seven-run frame for Atlanta. Freeman has gone yard in back-to-back games, giving him 26 homers on the year, and he's slashing a strong .327/.386/.500 through 14 contests in August.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Hammers walkoff homer

Cron went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 6-5 win over San Diego.

Cron launched a walkoff solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning off Daniel Hudson. It was his 20th long ball of the year and sixth in 13 games this month. Since the start of August, the 31-year-old slugger has gone 18-for-45 (.400) with 21 RBI and just eight strikeouts. Cron is slashing .263/.373/.508 through 100 games this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Expected to start Tuesday

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Walker got "a little bit of a blow" when he was held out of the starting lineup for two games over the weekend, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The manager expects Walker to start Tuesday against the Phillies.

Walker was held out of games Saturday and Sunday while Asdrubal Cabrera filled in at first base. With the team off Monday, Walker will get three days of rest before attempting to jumpstart his bat, which has produced a .636 OPS from first base, ranking him last among the 29 first basemen with at least 300 plate appearances.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Dodgers' Matt Beaty: Slams fifth home run Sunday

Beaty went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 14-4 win over the Mets.

Beaty replaced Max Muncy in the eighth inning and blasted a two-run homer in the ninth inning off Brandon Drury. It was his first long ball since July 4. He has lost playing time due to players returning from injury and mostly picks up the occasional pinch-hit appearance. On the season, he is slashing .260/.361/.373 with five homers, 32 RBI and 30 runs scored in 205 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Blasts 17th home run

Cronenworth went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two walks in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Cronenworth slammed a two-run home run off Zac Gallen in the fifth inning, giving the Padres a three-run lead. In addition, he walked twice, including a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning that scored Wil Myers. The 27-year-old Cronenworth is slashing .275/.348/.479 with 17 long balls, 58 RBI, 77 runs and four steals in 492 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Doubles, steals base

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a double, one RBI, two runs scored and a steal in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Royals.

Goldschmidt was busy in the first inning, knocking a single, stealing third and eventually crossing home in the three-run opening frame. He then ripped an RBI double and scored again in the second. The 6-foot-3 slugger has been on fire in August, going 16-for-50 (.320) with 13 RBI and three steals in 13 games. Goldschmidt's season OPS is up to .789 with 39 extra-base hits, and he has gone 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.

  • Braves' Freddie Freeman: Blasts 25th home run

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a strikeout in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Nationals.

Freeman had gone just 1-for-18 with three strikeouts in the six games leading up to Saturday's matchup, but he went 4-for-8 with a homer, three runs, two RBI, a stolen base and two walks in the final two contests of the series against Washington. The 31-year-old's home run in the fifth inning was just his second extra-base hit in his last 21 games.

  • Diamondbacks' Asdrubal Cabrera: Overtaking Walker on depth chart

Cabrera will start at first base and bat third Sunday against the Padres.

Cabrera will pick up his third straight start and second in a row at first base, replacing Christian Walker at the latter position for the second game in a row. Though the 38-80 Diamondbacks are likely to continue prioritizing younger options over the final six weeks of the season, Cabrera at least appears to be ahead of the struggling Walker in the pecking order among the veteran bats left on the roster. Cabrera's .737 OPS on the campaign is just over 100 points better than Walker's mark (.636).

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Sits in second straight

Walker is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Walker will take a seat for the second game in a row while Asdrubal Cabrera picks up another start at first base in his stead. Though he's held down a near-everyday role for the better part of the last three seasons, Walker could become phased out over the final six weeks while he endures a brutal 2021 campaign. His .636 OPS represents a 156-point decline from 2020, and with only five home runs in 301 plate appearances, Walker hasn't come close to living up to his reputation as a power-hitting first baseman.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Drives in three in win

Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored Saturday in the Cardinals' 9-4 win over the Royals.

Goldschmidt had a hand in the Cardinals' four-run seventh inning that turned the tide in the game, driving in a pair of runs on a base hit. He would add another RBI to his ledger on a sacrifice fly in his final at-bat in the ninth inning. Goldschmidt will start at first base and bat second in Sunday's series finale.
