Giants' Chris Shaw: Doubles twice in three-hit performance
Shaw went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run Monday in the Giants' 4-2 win over the Padres.
After managing just one hit over his first 22 at-bats in the majors, Shaw has now turned in back-to-back multi-hit outings. Prior to getting called up from Triple-A Sacramento at the beginning of the month, the 24-year-old showed some intriguing pop during his time in the minors, clubbing 24 home runs and 21 doubles across 422 plate appearances. He put some of that power potential on display Monday, but Shaw will need to cut down on strikeouts in order to make a consistent impact for the Giants over the final two weeks.

Asdrubal Cabrera 1B | CIN
Phillies' Asdrubal Cabrera: Suffers calf strain
Cabrera was removed from Monday's game against the Mets due to a left calf strain, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
It's unclear when Cabrera suffered the injury, but given the nature of the injury, he'll likely be forced to miss at least a few games. His availability moving forward will be determined after further evaluation Tuesday.

Giants' Chris Shaw: Collects two hits in start
Shaw started in left field and went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.
Shaw has struggled since being called up Aug. 31 (.115/.172/.231 in 29 plate appearances), so Sunday's two-hit game was a big step in the right direction. The 24-year-old had been situated on the bench for seven of the last eight contests, but Brandon Belt's (knee) absence allowed the young slugger to return to the lineup with Austin Slater sliding over to cover first base. It is unclear if the Giants -- who have nothing to play for -- will give Shaw an extended look at some point before the season comes to a close.

Giants' Chris Shaw: Out of lineup Saturday
Shaw is not starting against the Rockies on Saturday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Shaw has been on the bench for six of the last seven games, though three of those came against lefties. Hunter Pence gets the start in left field Saturday.

Asdrubal Cabrera 1B | CIN
Phillies' Asdrubal Cabrera: Sits again Saturday
Cabrera is on the bench Saturday against the Marlins.
Cabrera sits for the third time in four games, with Scott Kingery preferred at shortstop on each occasion. It won't be a surprise to see that trend continue, with the Phillies nearly out of the playoff race and Cabrera's contract up at the end of the season.

Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY
Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Out of Saturday's lineup
Rizzo is not in the lineup against the Reds on Saturday.
Rizzo will receive a rare day off after starting the past 36 games, during which he's hitting .308/.401/.523 with seven home runs and 18 RBI. In his place, Victor Caratini will man first base. Expect to see Rizzo back in the lineup for Sunday's series finale.

Joey Votto 1B | TOR
Reds' Joey Votto: Swats 12th homer
Votto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs.
It's only his 12th homer of the year, but three of them have come in his last five games, pushing Votto's slash line in September up to .293/.423/.561. The veteran first baseman has had a rough, injury-plagued season overall, but he remains a fantasy force in OBP leagues, drawing more than 100 walks for the fourth straight campaign.

Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE
Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Homers, doubles vs. Marlins
Hoskins went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored Friday against Miami.
Hoskins launched his 31st homer of the year to left field in the sixth inning, extending Philadelphia's lead to 11-1 in an eventual 14-2 rout. He's been hot at the plate to start September, going 11-for-43 with three doubles, four home runs and eight RBI through 12 games.

Chris Shaw 1B | CHW
Giants' Chris Shaw: On bench Friday
Shaw is not in the lineup versus Colorado on Friday, Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Shaw will ride the pine with left-hander Tyler Anderson on the mound for the Rockies. In his absence, Gregor Blanco will make a start in left field and bat seventh.

Asdrubal Cabrera 1B | CIN
Phillies' Asdrubal Cabrera: Not in lineup Friday
Cabrera is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins.
After a stretch of 10 straight starts, Cabrera sits for the second time in three games. The 32-year-old has hit just .234/.280/.409 since joining the Phillies, and with the team rapidly fading from contention, it wouldn't be a surprise to see younger players get a larger share of at-bats down the stretch. Scott Kingery will get the start at shortstop Friday.
