Phillies' Alec Bohm: On bench again Friday

Bohm is not in the lineup Friday versus Cincinnati, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Bohm will take a seat for the third time in the past four days, and he is 4-for-21 with nine strikeouts and also has four errors in his past eight contests. Ronald Torreyes will receive another look at the hot corner Friday.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Out of Friday's lineup

Tellez (knee) is not in the lineup Friday against the Pirates.

Tellez will remain on the bench for the second straight contest after leaving Wednesday's game with right knee discomfort. Manager Craig Counsell said the 26-year-old is feeling better Friday, but the team elected to give him an extra day to recover, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Eduardo Escobar will shift to first base while Luis Urias starts at the hot corner.

  • Chris Gittens 1B | HOU

Yankees' Chris Gittens: Activated and optioned

Gittens (ankle) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday and optioned to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre.

Gittens spent time in the big leagues in June and July but didn't make much of an impression in limited playing time, hitting .111/.250/.194 in 44 trips to the plate. Anthony Rizzo is still on the COVID-19 injured list, but the Yankees also have Luke Voit to play first base, so Gittens isn't needed at the moment.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Laces three hits

Cronenworth went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in a 12-3 loss to the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Cronenworth singled home a run in the first to give San Diego an early 2-0 lead, singled again in the sixth and tripled to right in the eighth. The infielder has now reached base in six straight games and recorded an extra-base hit in his last three.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Swats another homer

Wade went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a strikeout in a 7-0 defeat of the Rockies on Thursday.

Wade capped a six-run fourth with his 15th home run of the season off Colorado starter German Marquez for his second straight game with a long ball. The lefty has started August slow with only two extra-base hits, both of those being the recent homers.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Goes deep Thursday

Abreu went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a pair of walks Thursday against the Yankees.

Abreu opened the scoring in the "Field of Dreams" game in Iowa, taking New York starter Andrew Heaney into the left-field corn in the first inning. It was the 23rd home run of the season for Abreu and his second in the past two games. The 34-year-old Abreu is off to a terrific start to the month of August, hitting .295/.340/.659 with five homers and eight RBI in 11 appearances.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Scores in two-hit game

France went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.

France singled twice and scored in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jarred Kelenic to tie the game. He was one of two players to record multiple hits and he has six hits in his last three games. The 26-year-old is slashing .283/.357/.429 with 11 home runs, 49 RBI and 55 runs scored in 448 plate appearances.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Diamondbacks' Kole Calhoun: Back on injured list

Calhoun was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Thursday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.

Calhoun returned from the injured list July 10, but his season will be put on hold once again after he suffered another hamstring issue in Wednesday's game against the Giants. The 33-year-old missed over two months with a hamstring injury earlier in the year, but it's not yet clear how long he'll be sidelined with his current injury.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Not starting nightcap

Bell isn't starting Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Bell started in Thursday's matinee, but he's gone just 1-for-13 with two strikeouts across his last three appearances. Ryan Zimmerman will draw the start at first base and bat fourth.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Expected to return Tuesday

Hoskins (groin) is expected to be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Hoskins has been sidelined due to a left groin strain recently, and Tuesday is the first day that he's eligible to return from the injured list. The 28-year-old will meet with a doctor Thursday, and the meeting will likely determine whether he's ultimately able to return for Tuesday's series opener in Arizona. Brad Miller should continue to see the majority of the playing time at first base this weekend.
