  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Twins' Carlos Santana: Taking seat Friday

Santana is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Texas.

Santana will sit for the third time in the month of May. Alex Kirilloff will move to first base and bat sixth in place of Santana.

  • Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Takes seat Friday

Tellez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Tellez will dodge a matchup with southpaw Ray Kerr on Friday. Connor Joe will start at first base and bat third.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Athletics' J.D. Davis: Pops another homer Thursday

Davis went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run in an extra-innings win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Davis gave the Athletics a serious boost in the eighth inning when he left the yard with Seth Brown aboard and Oakland down by three. Half of Davis' four homers on the season have come in the last three games, and with hits in each of those contests, he's pushed his OPS (.618) to its highest point since May 8.

  • Joey Meneses DH | NYM

Nationals' Joey Meneses: Might lose roster spot

Meneses could be optioned to Triple-A Rochester when Lane Thomas (knee) is ready to come off the injured list, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

The 32-year-old has been an everyday player for the Nationals this season between first base and DH, but he's managed just a .234/.299/.299 slash line in 43 games with two homers and 24 RBI. Victor Robles is the more likely candidate to get booted from the 26-man roster to make room for Thomas, but Robles is out of minor-league options and would have to be exposed to waivers, while Meneses could be optioned to Triple-A without any risk of losing him. Jesse Winker would likely become the primary DH in that scenario.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Four hits in win

Mountcastle went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the White Sox.

Mountcastle recorded hits in each of his first four at-bats, marking only the second time this month in which he's scored two runs in a contest. The first baseman saw his batting average jump 16 points with his fourth multi-hit performance this month, though he hasn't driven in a run since May 8. Mountcastle is also yet to draw a walk in May while striking out 17 times.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Double, homer in win

Guerrero went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Tigers.

Guerrero went hitless in his first three at-bats before sending Danny Jansen to third with a double in the top of the eighth inning. The first baseman wasn't done there, however, adding a two-run homer in the following frame as the Blue Jays blew out the Tigers 9-1. It marked Guerrero's seventh multi-hit game this month, and he's batting .371 in May with two homers, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. The long ball was his first since May 5 against the Nationals.

  • Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Fielding grounders

Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) was on the field Tuesday fielding groundballs, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Encarnacion-Strand's right hand remained in a protective cast while he fielded solely with his left (glove) hand. This was his first form of baseball activity since being diagnosed May 8 with a right ulnar styloid fracture on the inside of his hand near the wrist. The Reds still expect him back at some point in June, but a clearer timeline should emerge after Encarnacion-Strand undergoes a follow-up exam scheduled for June 5, the four-week mark of his projected 4-to-6 week recovery.

  • Kris Bryant RF | COL

Rockies' Kris Bryant: Receiving Thursday off

Bryant is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Bryant will be joined on the bench by Elias Diaz, Charlie Blackmon and Brendan Rodgers as the Rockies rest four key regulars for the day game after a night game. After being activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Bryant started at first base in both of the first two games of the series in Oakland, going 1-for-8 with two walks between the contests. Elehuris Montero will replace Bryant at first base Thursday.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Sitting against right-hander

Soderstrom is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Soderstrom had started each of the previous six games against right-handers, but he'll begin Thursday's contest on the bench as the Athletics take on righty Ryan Feltner. Soderstrom sports a .689 OPS and 42.1 percent strikeout rate in 11 contests with the big club this season. J.D. Davis will cover first base Thursday in Soderstrom's stead.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Homers in loss

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Guardians.

Alonso opened the scoring in the first inning, sending a fastball from Triston McKenzie into the right-field seats for his 11th homer of the year. The 29-year-old Alonso has put together an eight-game hitting streak while going 18-for-59 (.305) with three homers and a .936 OPS in his last 14 contests. He's now slashing .236/.313/.466 with 24 RBI and 28 runs scored through 214 plate appearances this season.
