  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Socks first 2024 homer

O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a triple and a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 win over the Pirates.

Getting the start at DH against right-hander Jared Jones and batting fifth, O'Hearn took the rookie hurler deep in the second inning for his first homer of the year. The 30-year-old slugger came out of nowhere to post an .802 OPS over 368 plate appearances last season in a strong-side platoon role, and he's doing more of the same to begin 2024, going 5-for-16 with three of his hits going for extra bases, including a double against the Angels on Opening Day.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Participates in batting practice

Lowe (oblique) took part in batting practice Friday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Lowe started the season on the 10-day injured list after being diagnosed with a right oblique strain in spring training. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy noted that Lowe will likely face live pitching in the next few days, per Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News, so a minor-league rehab assignment doesn't appear far off.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Goes on paternity leave

France was placed on the paternity list Friday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

France will likely miss the entirety of the Mariners' weekend series in Milwaukee before rejoining the club next week in Toronto. Luke Raley and Dylan Moore will likely handle first base while France is away.

  • Ryan Noda 1B | BAL

Athletics' Ryan Noda: Taking seat versus lefty

Noda is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Detroit.

The left-handed hitting Noda will take a seat as the Tigers send ace southpaw Tarik Skubal to the mound. J.D. Davis will be at first base and Darell Hernaiz is at the hot corner.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Slugs clutch homer Thursday

Alonso went 3-for-9 with a solo home run, three total runs and a walk in Thursday's doubleheader split with Detroit.

Alonso struck out five times across 10 plate appearances in the doubleheader, but that didn't prevent him from making an offensive impact. In Game 1, he reached base three times and scored two of New York's three runs, and in the nightcap he slugged a solo homer in the ninth inning to tie the score in what became the Mets' first win of the campaign. Alonso is slashing .292/.346/.542 through 26 plate appearances and has two homers, both of which have been solo shots to account for his two RBI on the season.

  • Miguel Sano 3B | LAA

Angels' Miguel Sano: Doubles twice in win

Sano went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Marlins.

Sano had gone just 1-for-10 in his previous three games to start the season. Wednesday's outing was a positive sign for the 30-year-old first baseman -- he made the Angels' Opening-Day lineup after signing as a non-roster invitee. Sano didn't play professionally in 2023 after batting just .083 with one homer in 71 plate appearances with the Twins in 2022. While Sano should still offer some power upside, he'll likely be limited to a short-side platoon role to start the year.

  • Joey Gallo LF | CHW

Nationals' Joey Gallo: Logs first hits of 2024

Gallo went 3-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Pirates.

After going 0-for-12 in the Nationals' first series of the season, Gallo put on some fireworks Wednesday, busting out of the slump with his first round-tripper of the campaign. It was just his second game with at least three hits in the last 366 days (108 games), dating back to his third appearance of the 2023 campaign. Although Gallo will rack up more than his fair share of strikeouts, he still has light-tower power against right-handed pitching.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Belts second homer

Hoskins went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Twins.

The 31-year-old slugger gave the Brewers an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when he ripped a hanging changeup from Chris Paddack into the second deck down the left-field line. It was Hoskins' second homer of the season and first in his new home stadium, and a quick start to his Milwaukee tenure has seen him go 5-for-17 through five games with five RBI, five runs scored and a 3:3 BB:K.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Big day against Brewers

Kirilloff went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple and two runs scored in Wednesday's 7-3 win over Milwaukee.

The 26-year-old has hit safely in all five games to begin the season, but Wednesday was his first multi-hit performance. Kirilloff is 8-for-18 (.444) to kick off the campaign with three of those hits (two doubles and a triple) going for extra bases. He slashed a solid .270/.348/.445 over 88 games in 2023 with 11 homers and 41 RBI, and if he can stay healthy, Kirilloff might finally begin to deliver on the talent that made him a first-round pick back in 2016.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Fills in for resting Abreu

Singleton will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Despite posting a lowly .500 OPS in spring training, Singleton was able to secure a spot on Houston's Opening Day roster as a bench bat. Singleton will pick up his second start of the season Wednesday, spelling a resting Jose Abreu at first base.
