Rays' Yandy Diaz: Heading for MRI

Diaz is experiencing some pain and will undergo an MRI after exiting Sunday's game against the Yankees with left groin tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz has apparently been bothered by the injury for the past few days, and he aggravated the issue during the first inning of Sunday's contest as he doubled and came around to score. The 31-year-old will undergo an MRI on Monday with the Rays having a team off day, leaving his availability up in the air for Tuesday's series opener against the Mets.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Likely to land on IL

Rockies manager Bud Black said after Sunday's 4-0 win over the Phillies that Cron (back) is likely heading to the injured list, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Cron left Sunday's game with back spasms, and it sounds like the first baseman will need at least a week or more to recover. In 35 games this season, Cron has slashed .228/.277/.426 with six home runs, 20 RBI and 19 runs. Mike Moustakas as well as Harold Castro could see reps at first base while Cron is out of the lineup. The Rockies likely won't make Cron's move to the IL official until shortly before Monday's game against Cincinnati.

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Exits with back spasms

Cron was removed from Sunday's game against the Phillies due to back spasms, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Cron went 0-for-2 with an RBI prior to leaving Sunday's contest in the fourth inning. The severity of the issue remains unclear, and the 33-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Reds.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Dealing with groin issue

Diaz was removed from Sunday's game against the Yankees with left groin tightness, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

The 31-year-old doubled and scored during the first inning but tweaked his groin while running the bases. Diaz will have a team off day Monday to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Mets. Isaac Paredes stepped in at first base in his place Sunday.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Leaves with potential injury

Diaz left Sunday's game against the Yankees with an apparent injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz appeared to slip while getting to third base in the top of the first inning, and while he was able to score a run on a Brandon Lowe groundout, he was unable to continue on defense. Isaac Paredes has taken over at first base with Diaz out.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Posts steal Saturday

Goldschmidt went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

Goldschmidt walked and stole second in the ninth inning before scoring on a Nolan Gorman double. Through 11 games in May, Goldschmidt is hitting .319 with three home runs, four doubles and two steals. The first baseman is batting .310 with a .927 OPS, seven homers, five steals, 20 RBI and 26 runs scored through 39 contests overall.

  • Ryan Noda 1B | BAL

Athletics' Ryan Noda: Gets Sunday off

Noda is out of the starting lineup against the Rangers on Sunday.

The lefty-hitting Noda will take a seat with southpaw Andrew Heaney on the bump for the Rangers. Jesus Aguilar is starting at first base and hitting fifth.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Marlins' Yuli Gurriel: Returns to bench with Cooper back

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel had started 10 of the Marlins' last 11 games at first base, slashing just .175/.227/.300 with a home run, three RBI and two runs over that stretch. He'll likely see his playing time take a significant hit moving forward after the Marlins reinstated Garrett Cooper (ear) from the 10-day injured list Sunday and reinstalled him as their everyday first baseman.

  • Garrett Cooper 1B | ATL

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Activated off injured list

The Marlins reinstated Cooper (ear) from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cooper is hitting second and playing first base against the Reds on Sunday in his return from the IL. The first baseman missed just over the minimum 10 days while recovering from an inner ear infection. He should return to regular playing time at first base with some designated hitter duties sprinkled in.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Goes yard twice in rout

Kirilloff went 3-for-3 with a double, two solo home runs and a third run scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Cubs.

The 25-year-old got the rout started with a solo shot off Hayden Wesneski in the first inning before tagging the right-hander again in the third. The long balls were the first of the season for Kirilloff, and in seven games since making his 2023 debut he's batting .438 (7-for-16), making the Twins look very smart for being cautious with his return from wrist surgery.
