  • Angels' Brandon Drury: Hitting off tee

Drury (shoulder) will hit off a tee Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

It's the first time he's done any hitting since he landed on the injured list at the beginning of July with left shoulder inflammation. Drury is hopeful he can return to the Angels' lineup in a few days but acknowledged he'll probably have to play through some discomfort.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Rehab begins Sunday

Polanco (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Polanco debuted back in 2014 and made it through the end of 2021 without ever hitting the injured list, but he went there twice last season and three times so far this year, including twice with a strained left hamstring. His latest injury has kept him out for over a month, but it doesn't look as though he'll miss too much more time.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Hits bench for night game

Lowe will sit for the second half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Royals.

Lowe led off in the afternoon contest, going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Taylor Walls will slide to second base for the nightcap, with Isaac Paredes taking Walls' spot at the hot corner.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Orioles' Adam Frazier: Sits against southpaw

Frazier will be on the bench Saturday against Miami, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Frazier hits the bench against lefty Braxton Garrett. With the Orioles' infield getting crowded by the arrival of multiple prospects, Frazier has seen his playing time slip. He hasn't started against a southpaw since May and has started against only two of the last four righties the Orioles have faced. Jordan Westburg will start at second base Saturday.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Not in Saturday's lineup

Gimenez will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Andre Knott of Bally Sports Ohio reports.

Gimenez will sit with lefty Andrew Heaney on the hill for Texas. Gimenez started against all but four southpaws in the first half and has actually fared much better against lefties (.802 OPS) than against righties (.663) this season, so his off day Saturday probably isn't a sign that he's about to slip into a platoon role. Tyler Freeman will take over at the keystone.

  • Mauricio Dubon 2B | ATL

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Makes most of leadoff chance

Dubon went 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run scored and a stolen base Friday against the Angels.

Dubon continues to fill in for Jose Altuve (oblique) at second base and in the leadoff spot, and his two-RBI single in the sixth inning provided the game-winning runs Friday. He has hit only .225 across his last 10 games and 40 at-bats, though he has still managed five RBI and four runs scored in that span. Dubon already has a career-high 305 plate appearances, and he should get consistent at-bats in the short term before transitioning to a utility role upon Altuve's return.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Orioles' Adam Frazier: Goes yard twice in win

Frazier went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 5-2 win over the Marlins.

The veteran utility player fueled the Baltimore offense with a solo shot of Sandy Alcantara in the fourth inning and a two-run blast on a Bryan Hoeing sinker in the eighth that stayed up in the strike zone. Frazier has a career-high 12 homers on the season in only 84 games, but with youngsters Gunnar Henderson, Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser all pushing for everyday spots in the lineup, the 31-year-old Frazier's .240/.305/.424 slash line may not be good enough for him to maintain consistent playing time on a crowded O's roster.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Racks up three hits

Torres went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Rockies.

Torres has gone 14-for-44 (.318) in July with four multi-hit efforts. This was his second straight game atop the lineup after regularly hitting second for much of the three weeks before the All-Star break. The second baseman is slashing .257/.330/.417 with 13 home runs, 36 RBI, 51 runs scored and eight stolen bases with a 9.8 percent walk rate, but it remains to be seen if his time atop the order is temporary. Anthony Volpe, Anthony Rizzo and DJ LeMahieu all batted leadoff in the week before the break.

  • Angels' Michael Stefanic: Recalled from Triple-A

Stefanic was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and is starting at second base and batting ninth against the Astros.

With Anthony Rendon (shin), Brandon Drury (shoulder) and David Fletcher out of the picture in the short term, Stefanic could get steady work. The 27-year-old hit .349 with more walks than strikeouts and two home runs in 300 plate appearances this season in the Pacific Coast League. He can play second base and third base.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Sitting Friday

Arroyo isn't in the Red Sox's lineup Friday against the Cubs, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Despite ending the first half of the season on a six-game hitting streak, Arroyo will sit out the second-half opener Friday. Justin Turner will start at second base while Arroyo sits.
