  • Shay Whitcomb SS | HOU

    Astros' Shay Whitcomb: Promoted Sunday

The Astros recalled Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old was demoted July 10 but will rejoin Houston on Sunday with Isaac Paredes (hamstring) hitting the injured list. Whitcomb has gone 1-for-19 in 12 big-league games this season but has been productive at Triple-A with 19 homers, eight steals and a .913 OPS in 287 plate appearances.

  • Dylan Moore 2B | TEX

Mariners' Dylan Moore: Logs 10th steal

Moore went 0-for-1 with one RBI and one stolen base in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Astros.

Moore's playing time remains sparse, and rightfully so given his woeful work at the plate in limited opportunities. He's gone 2-for-44 over 27 games since the start of June -- his RBI in Saturday's contest was on a groundout that tied the game in the bottom of the 10th inning. A strong start to the year gave him regular playing time into May, but he's since settled in as a utility player with no clear path into the lineup. Moore is slashing just .208/.268/.387 with 10 steals, nine home runs, 19 RBI and 27 runs scored over 190 plate appearances this season.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Dealing with foot issue

Lowe was lifted from Saturday's game against Baltimore due to a flare-up of plantar fasciitis in his left foot, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe grounded out to third base to end the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday, and Jose Caballero replaced him on defense to begin the top of the following frame. Lowe was just activated from the IL on Friday following an oblique injury, but his departure Saturday doesn't appear to be related to that issue. Topkin notes that Lowe was already scheduled to get a day off Sunday, though the slugger could be available off the bench.

  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | CHW

White Sox's Lenyn Sosa: Perfect at plate in win

Sosa went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Pirates. He was also hit by a pitch.

Sosa reached base in all five plate appearances and drove in runs with singles in the fifth and seventh innings. The 25-year-old has posted an .828 OPS over 14 July contests, recording four multi-hit efforts, three home runs, 12 RBI and seven runs scored during that stretch. For the season, he's slashing .274/.300/.422 with nine homers, 34 RBI, 29 runs scored and two stolen bases across 308 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Brendan Rodgers: Suffers broken nose, concussion

Rodgers was diagnosed with a nasal fracture and a concussion Saturday following a collision during a rehab game at Triple-A Sugar Land, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

While working his way back from an oblique strain, Rodgers ran head first into shortstop Edwin Diaz on Friday. The Astros have pulled the former off his rehab assignment following his diagnoses, and he's slated to be re-evaluated in a few days, at which point a new timeline for his return may emerge.

  • Travis Bazzana 2B | CLE

Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Two hits in return

Bazzana went 2-for-4 for Double-A Akron on Friday.

Bazzana, who was activated off the 7-day injured list Friday, started at second base and batted leadoff. He played nine innings in the field before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the 10th. He missed the last two months with an oblique injury, which has naturally put a crimp in the development of the first overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft. Second base at the major-league level is an unsettled spot that Bazzana is expected to fill when he's ready.

  • Willi Castro RF | CHC

Twins' Willi Castro: Blasts 10th homer in defeat

Castro went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-4 loss to Colorado.

Castro crushed his 10th homer of the campaign while also posting his second three-RBI showing in his past three outings. The utility man has settled in nicely following a rough start to the season, which saw him post a .227 batting average and .364 slugging percentage through April 16. Since May began, Castro is slashing .276/.374/.469 with 18 extra-base hits, 35 runs scored and seven stolen bases over 223 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Brendan Rodgers: Exits rehab game

Rodgers (oblique) was removed from his rehab game at Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday after a collision, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Rodgers' head collided with shortstop Edwin Diaz while both players attempted to field a groundball in the third inning. The severity of Rodgers' injury is unknown, though he was able to walk off the field under his own power. The 28-year-old will likely be evaluated for a concussion.

  • Astros' Brendan Rodgers: Starting rehab assignment

Rodgers (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Rodgers is set for his first game action since June 18 due to a strained left oblique. It's unclear how many rehab appearances he'll need, but it looks like Rodgers is on track for a late July return. He is slashing .191/.266/.278 with two home runs in 128 plate appearances this season.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Back from injured list

The Rays reinstated Lowe (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

The second baseman landed on the shelf just before the All-Star break due to oblique soreness and is ready to rejoin the Rays for the start of the second half. In 31 games since the start of June, Lowe had been one of the hotter hitters in baseball with eight homers and a .319/.366/.575 slash line.
