Mendick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Mendick started at shortstop in each of Chicago's last four games, going 5-for-16 with two doubles and an RBI. With Tim Anderson (hamstrings) back in the starting nine for Wednesday's contest, Mendick's time as an everyday player now looks to be over.

Castro isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Castro went 1-for-4 with a run and two strikeouts Tuesday, and he'll retreat to the bench with left-hander Jon Lester taking the mound for St. Louis. Zack Short will start at shortstop and bat eighth.

Mendick started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Mendick made his fourth consecutive start at shortstop Tuesday, replacing the injured Tim Anderson (leg). That might be the last start for Mendick, as Anderson is due back Wednesday, per Jordan Horrobin of MLB.com.

Polance went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Polanco delivered a two-run homer in the seventh inning, his 23rd long ball of the season. He's now gone yard in consecutive games and has five multi-hit efforts in his last seven games to go along with 11 RBI and three runs scored in that span. For the season, Polanco is hitting .274/.334/.491 with 74 runs scored and 74 RBI across 500 plate appearances.

Hernandez is not starting Tuesday's game against Cleveland.

He has just two hits in his last 13 at-bats, so he'll take a seat for the second time in three games. Andy Ibanez will shift to the hot corner as Nick Solak starts at second base Tuesday.

Mayfield is not starting Tuesday against the Orioles, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Mayfield will return to the bench after going 1-for-6 with a double while starting the previous two games. Phil Gosselin will man the hot corner and bat third Tuesday.

Miller is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Miller has gone 7-for-35 with a double, two RBI and five runs scored in his last 10 games. Yu Chang is playing first base and batting seventh Tuesday.

Ibanez went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Monday's 8-4 extra-innings loss to Boston.

Ibanez was nearly a hero. His ninth-inning hit bounced into the stands for a ground-rule double, plating two and leaving the go-ahead runner at third. It was the seventh straight game with a hit for Ibanez, who is 12-for-25 with five extra-base hits and five RBI during that stretch. With Nick Solak back up in the majors and expected to be the primary second baseman, Rangers manager Chris Woodward will move Ibanez around. He's started at first base, second base, left field and designated hitter during his batting streak and has appeared in every game since July 18, a span of 32 games. He could also play third base, as Brock Holt and Charlie Culberson are currently on the COVID-19 list.

Merrifield went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBI in a 7-1 triumph over Houston on Monday.

Merrifield provided his usual spark atop the order, singling in the fifth, doubling home an insurance run in the seventh and tripling in two more in the eighth to record hits in each of his final three at-bats. He's strung together a modest five-game hitting streak that features an 8-for-14 stretch over his last three games, though the two extra-base hits equaled his prior August total.

Torres (thumb) hopes to begin a rehab assignment next week, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Torres took dry swings and fielded grounders last week, and he'll report to Double-A Somerset to work out throughout this week. As long as the 24-year-old continues to trend in the right direction, the Yankees are optimistic that he'll return to game action with the minor-league club next week. Torres has been on the injured list since Aug. 9 and will likely remain away from the major-league club until early September.
