  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Day off Sunday

Torres is not in Sunday's lineup against the Orioles.

He has been swinging a hot bat, going 6-for-13 with one home run and two doubles over his last four games. Tyler Wade will start at shortstop and bat ninth in his stead.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Blasts ninth homer

Merrifield went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Pirates.

The 31-year-old continues to rock from the top of the Royals' batting order. Merrifield has four multi-hit performances in his last five games, going yard twice during that stretch, and on the season he's slashing .267/.316/.461 with nine homers, seven steals, 27 RBI and 28 runs in 47 games.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Launches 12th homer

Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Red Sox.

His seventh-inning shot off Marcus Walden proved to be the game-winning hit as Nick Anderson and Diego Castillo shut the door on Boston from there. Lowe is slashing .258/.351/.570 through 43 games with an impressive 12 homers and 30 RBI.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Swats third homer

Chavis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Rays.

The third-inning blast was his third homer of the year, while the steal was also his third of the season -- in fact, Boston ran wild on the basepaths in this one, going 6-for-6 on SB attempts against the battery of Tyler Glasnow and Michael Perez. Through 31 games, Chavis is slashing .229/.274/.371 as he continues to fill a utility role for the Red Sox, splitting time between first base, second base and now left field.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Launches bomb Saturday

Arroyo went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Rays.

Arroyo made his fourth straight start at second base and should get most of the reps at the position after Boston optioned Jose Peraza to the alternate camp. "He won't be out there every single day, but most of the time," Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke told Ian Browne of MLB.com. "I think that's what we'd like to do is to give him an opportunity to see the good tools that everybody saw when he was drafted." A former first-round draft pick (2013) of the Giants, Arroyo posted an .846 OPS at the Triple-A level but has been unable to carry that to the majors.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Athletics' Marcus Semien: Delivers three-run shot

Semien went 2-for-8 with with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored across both games of a doubleheader against the Rangers on Saturday.

Semien went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the opening game, but he rebounded in the second contest, slugging a three-run home run for his sixth long ball of the season. Entering the game, Semien had gone just 2-for-15 in four games since returning from a side injury, so it's possible this performance will get him back on track at the plate. Overall, Semien is hitting .221/.286/.374 across 178 plate appearances.

  • Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI

Rangers' Elvis Andrus: Out with back strain

Andrus was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained back Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Andrus had already been losing playing time to Anderson Tejeda thanks to the Rangers' struggles and his own .580 OPS. It's now possible that he's already played his final game of the season, as there will only be five games left when he's first eligible to return Sept. 23. Sherten Apostel was called up in a corresponding move.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Could return next week

Altuve (knee) hit in the batting cage Saturday and could return during the Astros' upcoming homestand, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

Altuve has been steadily progressing in recent games as he continues to work his way back from a right knee sprain. The 30-year-old ran earlier in the week before taking swings Saturday. Manager Dusty Baker was optimistic that Altuve could return during the homestand that runs from Tuesday in Texas through Sunday in Arizona.

  • Dilson Herrera 2B | CIN

    Orioles' Dilson Herrera: Clears waivers

Herrera cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Orioles' alternate training site Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Herrera was designated for assignment Tuesday after spending a week in the majors, and he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. The 26-year-old slashed .248/.330/.501 with 24 home runs and 64 RBI with Triple-A Syracuse last season.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Working in bench role

Kemp has started four of 11 games since the A's acquired Tommy La Stella at the trade deadline.

He is 3-for-9 with a double, a walk and a strikeout over that stretch, so he is playing his new role well, but the days of Kemp working on the strong side of a platoon are over. Look for him to continue to operate in a bench role going forward.
