  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Back in lineup

Donovan (elbow) is starting in left field Saturday against the Marlins, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Donovan was hit by two pitches during Wednesday's game against the Padres, prompting a day off Thursday to recover. Now seemingly healthy, the 27-year-old super-utility man will return to the top of the Cardinals' lineup and look to stay hot after slashing .308/.438/.500 to begin the year.

  • Reds' Santiago Espinal: Starts at third base

Espinal started at third base and went 0-for-3 with a walk and stolen base in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Mets.

Jeimer Candelario served as the designated hitter after leaving Wednesday's game with a sore elbow. It's unclear if Candelario will be limited to DH duties, but if so, Espinal could fill in at third base. He's expected to slot in somewhere anytime the Reds are facing a left-hander. Espinal is 1-for-10 with two walks and two steals through four games (three starts).

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Opens with homer

Marte went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.

Marte sent the fourth pitch of the game -- a hanging slider from Spencer Strider -- over the right-center field wall. It was the second consecutive game with a home run for Marte, who continued a hot start to the season. He's slashing .353/.385/.588 with four extra-base hits, five RBI and 10 runs scored over eight games.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Productive at home

Rodgers went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored Friday against the Rays.

Rodgers went just 3-for-25 in the Rockies' seaosn-opening road trip while striking out at a 28.0 percent clip. He fared better at hitter-friendly Coors Field on Friday, and his performance was highlighted by a double in the first inning. That marked Rodgers' second extra-base hit of the season, though he'll have the chance to add to that total in the remaining five games of the current homestand.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Belts homer in win

McNeil went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during the Mets' victory over the Reds on Friday.

McNeil's homer in the eighth inning off Emilio Pagan extended New York's lead to 3-1, and it would end up being the difference in the game as the Mets would win 3-2. The 2022 NL batting champion is slashing just .105/.190/.263 through his first 21 plate appearances this season after a down 2023, and he'll need to string more hits together before he's viewed as a reliable fantasy asset again.

  • Oliver Dunn 2B | CHW

Brewers' Oliver Dunn: Steals bag, goes deep

Dunn went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Friday's win over the Mariners.

Dunn launched his first career home run in the fourth inning and then recorded his first MLB steal in the eighth. The 26-year-old was 3-for-12 with a 1:5 BB:K through his first four MLB appearances before Friday's breakout. He'll need to continue swinging the bat well to maintain playing time with the Brewers.

  • Jose Rodriguez 2B | PHI

Phillies' Jose Rodriguez: Traded to Phillies

The White Sox traded Rodriguez to the Phillies on Friday in exchange for cash considerations.

Rodriguez was designated for assignment Thursday but will remain on a 40-man roster as he joins the Phillies organization. The 22-year-old infielder reached Triple-A for the first time last season, slashing .253/.270/.379 across 89 plate appearances, and he made his big-league debut in June as a pinch runner, but Philadelphia optioned him to Double-A Reading after acquiring him.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Expected back Saturday

Donovan (elbow) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday against the Marlins, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Donovan was dealing with bruising and lingering pain after being hit by pitches in the elbow and bicep early in the season. He sat Thursday as a result, but he isn't expected to miss further time.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Sits down for Game 2

McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader versus Detroit.

McNeil will take a seat after going 0-for-3 during the Mets' loss in Game 1, bringing his batting average down to .067 to begin the year. Joey Wendle will start instead at second base while batting ninth.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Scores two runs Wednesday

Hoerner went 0-for-2 but drew two walks and scored two runs in Wednesday's 9-8 victory over the Rockies.

Hoerner has been in the leadoff spot both times the Cubs have faced lefties this season, but he's been down in the seven hole against all opposing right-handers to date. While he has just two hits in 19 at-bats so far, he's drawn five walks while striking out only four times, which is an encouraging sign for his future production. The bigger concern for fantasy managers is that he has yet to attempt a stolen base through six games under new manager Craig Counsell. Hoerner attempted 50 steals last year under David Ross while batting exclusively first or second in the order.
