The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

With Tommy Edman (wrist) landing on the injured list Friday, Fermin will be called up to provide infield depth. The 24-year-old hasn't posted remarkable numbers at Triple-A, slashing .167/.310/.333, although he's been on the injured list for most of the season due to a quad injury. Fermin's best opportunity for starts will come against left-handed pitching, though he figures to mostly be used off the bench.

Fermin will be recalled by the Cardinals prior to their weekend series against the White Sox, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Fermin has missed most of the minor-league season with a quad injury and is just 4-for-24 at the plate since joining Triple-A Memphis. With Tommy Edman (wrist) and Brendan Donovan (arm) banged up though, Fermin will provide the Cards with some infield protection. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

Arraez went 3-for-5 in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals.

Miami got shut out by Jack Flaherty and the St. Louis bullpen, but Arraez did his best to jumpstart the offense from the leadoff spot. The 26-year-old has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games, slashing .418/.465/.532 over that stretch as he keeps the dream of a .400 season alive.

Marte (back) went 1-for-3 in Thursday's 9-0 loss to the Mets.

The Diamondbacks fell behind early, but Marte still played seven innings at second base after not starting Tuesday or Wednesday. He's hit safely in nine of his last 12 games, going 11-for-44 (.250) in that span. For the season, Marte owns a .285/.364/.498 slash line, 15 home runs, 44 RBI, 61 runs scored and six stolen bases through 81 contests.

Marte (back) is starting at second base and batting second Thursday versus the Mets.

Marte has been bothered by lower-back discomfort over the last couple of days, but he appeared off the bench in the Diamondbacks' loss to the Mets on Wednesday and will return in full for Thursday's series finale. The 29-year-old boasts a .284/.364/.500 batting line with 15 homers, 44 RBI, six steals and 61 runs scored through 80 games this season.

Manager Gabe Kapler said Thursday that Estrada (hand) is expected to be sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

That timeline will be extended if Estrada requires surgery, but for now he's just in rest-and-treatment mode. The dynamic 27-year-old suffered a fracture in his left hand when he was hit by a pitch Sunday against the Mets, and the Giants officially placed him on the injured list Monday. Casey Schmitt should continue to draw most of the starts at second base in Estrada's absence.

Donovan went 3-for-5 in Wednesday's 10-9 loss to the Marlins.

Donovan racked up three singles while serving as the designated hitter, as arm soreness will prevent him from playing the field until after the All-Star break. The 26-year-old's hitting hasn't been negatively impacted by the arm issue thus far -- he's 10-for-18 over his last five games. His defensive versatility usually helps to keep him in the lineup, so it's unclear how often he'll be in the lineup over the next four days before the break. He's slashing a steady .288/.378/.419 through 77 contests this season.

Gorman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins.

Gorman's two-run shot off Bryan Hoeing in the top of the third tied the game at 5-5, finishing off a five-run inning for St. Louis. The second baseman had gone hitless over his last 10 at-bats before the third-inning homer, which is only his second long ball since June 9. He's still hitting just .188 to begin the month of July after hitting .143 in June.

Marte (back) served as a pinch hitter, went 0-for-1, and played the field for the final inning in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Mets.

Marte was held out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive day due to lower-back soreness, but Wednesday's activity suggests the issue is a minor one. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said following the game that the infielder was on track to start Thursday's series finale, per MLB.com.
