  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Back in action Friday

Polanco (ankle) is starting Friday against the Royals, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Polanco missed the last three games due to slight soreness in his right ankle, but he'll start at the keystone and bat third during Friday's matchup. Over his last five games, he's gone 4-for-18 with five runs, three RBI, a stolen base, four walks and six strikeouts.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

    Mets' Jeff McNeil: Starting Friday

McNeil (knee) is starting Friday against the Phillies.

McNeil sustained a left knee contusion Wednesday against the Giants, but he'll start at second base and bat seventh following Thursday's scheduled off day. The 30-year-old has hit .364 with a homer, four doubles, five RBI, two RBI and a stolen base over the last six games.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

    Giants' Thairo Estrada: Resting Friday

Estrada will be on the bench Friday against Cincinnati, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Estrada had started each of the last nine games, hitting .406/.472/.531 over that stretch. Donovan Walton will start at second base Friday.

  • Amed Rosario 3B | NYY

Guardians' Amed Rosario: Not in Friday's lineup

Rosario isn't starting Friday against the Tigers.

Rosario has recorded hits in six of the last seven games, and he hit .269 with a double, four runs, two RBI and two stolen bases during that time. Steven Kwan will shift to left field while Oscar Gonzalez starts in right.

  • Jahmai Jones DH | DET

Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Jones (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Jones was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list in mid-May due to right elbow inflammation, and he'll miss significant time following Friday's procedure. While position players don't usually require as much recovery time following Tommy John surgery, he'll require several months to recover, and it seems likely that he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the 2022 season.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Having strong month

Rodgers went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored Thursday against the Nationals.

Rodgers extended his hitting streak to 13 games and has at least one hit in 18 of his 20 starts in May. In that span, he's also recorded two home runs, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored. After a very slow start, Rodgers' line has crept up to .242/.284/.348 across 141 plate appearances on the season.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Swats leadoff dinger

Hernandez went 1-for-6 with a solo home run in Thursday's 16-7 win over the White Sox.

For the second time in the series against Chicago, Hernandez went deep as the first batter of the game. His on-base streak reached 13 games, during which he's gone 16-for-58 (.276) with a .338 on-base percentage and 11 runs scored. After a slow start which temporarily moved him down in the order, Hernandez is back to setting the table for Boston's powerful lineup, which leads the majors in average (.283), slugging (.477) and OPS (.825) during the month of May.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Brewers' Luis Urias: Slugs fourth homer

Urias went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a 4-3 win over St. Louis on Thursday.

Urias got Milwaukee off to a quick start, slugging a solo shot off Adam Wainwright to get the scoring started in the first inning. The long ball was the infielder's fourth this month and second in his past five games. Urias is slashing .267/.371/.440 through 89 plate appearances on the season.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Goes deep in blowout loss

Hoerner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Reds.

Chicago fell 20-5, so Hoerner's third home run of the season was of little consequence. It's still good to see the shortstop go deep in his second game back from the injured list after missing two weeks with a right ankle sprain. The 25-year-old is expected to be the primary shortstop moving forward for the 18-26 Cubs, with the veteran Andrelton Simmons working in more of a reserve role.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Returns to lineup

Garcia (wrist) is starting Thursday's game at Triple-A Rochester.

Garcia hyperextended his left arm during a collision at first base Tuesday, but he'll be back in action after missing just one game. The 22-year-old is slashing .331/.387/.576 with eight homers, 35 runs, 27 RBI and a stolen base in Rochester this year and will likely be in consideration for a call-up soon.
