Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus has cleared waivers, but he's unlikely to be dealt, according to CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler.

The fact that Andrus went unclaimed shouldn't come as a huge surprise. He's been a disappointment offensively after signing a $120 million extension in the offseason. There's also no reason to read into the Rangers' decision to put Andrus on waivers, as teams put a good amount of their players on waivers this time of year. While the team could replace him with Jurickson Profar, there's a sense they won't deal their everyday shortstop during the stretch run.

Andrus is hitting .255/.317/.306 in 470 at-bats. 

Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus received some extra baserunning practice prior to Wednesday's game against the Brewers according to MLB.com, but it did not have the desired impact.

Andrus was caught stealing for the first time since June 25, a streak of 14 straight attempts without being caught. He had a solid game otherwise, finishing 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs driven in, in a 5-4 win.

Andrus has 30 stolen bases while being caught just four times. He has already stolen six bases in the month of August, while batting .273.

White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham registered three hits during a 6-4 loss at home to the Tigers Wednesday. Beckham finished 3 for 4. 

The infielder had three singles and added a walk in the contest. He's batting .308 on the season for Chicago. 

Beckham has gone 6 for 13 over his last three games and has hits in seven of his last 10 contests with five multi-hit games over that span. 

Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa is performing well at Triple-A Syracuse lately. 

Espinosa has notched 12 hits over his last 10 games. Over that period, he's hitting .308. Problems still exist, though. Espinosa continues to strikeout at a high rate. In those 10 games, he's struck out 14 times. 

Espinosa is hitting .219/.291/.300 in 210 at-bats. 

White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham recorded three hits during a win over the Tigers Monday.

Beckham went 3 for 5 with an RBI and run scored for the White Sox. He's batting .306 on the year.

Beckham drove in his 17th run of the season but also grounded into a double play.

He's hit in seven of his last 10 games with four RBI over that stretch.

Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is not expected to be placed on the disabled list, according to the Houston Chronicle. 

Altuve is dealing with some quad pain, and is not in the team's starting lineup Monday. He'll be rested regularly and may DH until he's 100 percent healthy, according to manager Bo Porter. Altuve is hitting .282/.321/.362 in 436 at-bats.

Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is not 100 percent healthy and continuing to play through a sore left quad, MLB.com reports Sunday. 

"He doesn't have that burst of speed we're used to seeing," manager Bo Porter said. "You look at the [double] last night, that probably would have been a triple if he's completely healthy. I think he scores from second base easy on that single, too. At the same time, he's not coming out of the lineup. As the manager and the training staff, we do have to monitor it and protect him from himself."

Altuve went 1 for 4 Sunday in a loss to the Rangers. He doubled and is batting .282 on the season. 

Royals infielder Johnny Giavotella is tentatively scheduled to rejoin the Triple-A Omaha lineup Sunday, the Kansas City Star reports. Giavotella, who has been out since July 23 with a hip injury, was just 1 for 6 in two games after joining Omaha before going on the disabled list.

Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus hit his first home run of the season in his team's 5-4 win over the Astros Saturday. The two-run homer was his only hit in five at-bats, giving him a .260/.322/.313 line with 38 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 454 at-bats.
