  • Kody Clemens 1B | MIN

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Clemens for assignment Wednesday.

Though he had been on the active roster since Opening Day, Clemens had made no starts and logged just seven plate appearances through the Phillies' first 24 contests. As a left-handed bench bat who doesn't profile as a platoon option, Clemens was deemed an expendable piece and will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to the right-handed-hitting Weston Wilson (oblique), who was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Clemens doesn't have minor-league options remaining, so the Phillies will have to expose him to waivers first in order for him to potentially remain in the organization as infield depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Held out again Wednesday

Donovan (rib) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.

Donovan had a rib pop out of place Tuesday morning and will now sit out a second straight game. He is not expected to need a stint on the injured list and could be available to pinch hit Wednesday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Nolan Gorman will handle second base and bat third in Wednesday's series finale.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Dropped to fifth in order

Semien was dropped from leadoff to fifth in the order for Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and four RBI in an 8-5 win.

Texas manager Bruce Bochy enacted lineup and order changes in hopes of shaking the team out of an offensive malaise. That appeared to work for Semien, who entered the night batting .141. Josh Smith took over at leadoff against a right-hander, though it's unclear if Bochy will continue this practice against lefties.

  • Tim Tawa 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Pops homer in win

Tawa went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Tampa Bay.

Tawa gave the Diamondbacks some cushion with a home run in the fifth inning that increased their lead to 3-1. It was his third consecutive start at second base and fifth in the last six games, during which he's popped three home runs. Tawa's last three hits have left the park. The primary starter at second base, Ketel Marte (hamstring), has begun baseball activities, but he's not running yet. That means Tawa's run of regular at-bats should continue for at least another week.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Drives in three

Gorman went 1-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Tuesday's win over Atlanta.

Gorman provided some clutch hitting with the bases loaded and cleared them all with a double to right field. It's his second straight game with a double and an RBI and his first game with multiple RBI since July 20 of last year. Gorman's now up to seven RBI with five extra-base knocks.

  • Max Muncy SS | ATH

Athletics' Max Muncy: Getting rest Tuesday

Muncy isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Muncy went 2-for-7 with a walk during the Athletics' previous series against Milwaukee, and he'll now take a seat for the first of three games versus Texas. His absence will allow Luis Urias to pick up a start at second base and bat ninth.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Unavailable due to rib issue

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Donovan is unavailable Tuesday after a rib popped out of place earlier in the day, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Donovan's availability for Wednesday's series finale in Atlanta is also in question, although Marmol said it's unlikely the super-utility player will require a trip to the 10-day injured list. Nolan Gorman is occupying second base and batting third for St. Louis on Tuesday.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Not starting against righty

Keith is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

With Kerry Carpenter limited to designated hitter duty for now as he comes back from a hamstring issue and Spencer Torkelson deserving everyday playing time, Keith faces a playing-time squeeze in the short term. Torkelson is at first base versus righty Nick Pivetta on Tuesday.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Getting day off Tuesday

Donovan is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

It's the first true day off for Donovan this season, as the first time he wasn't in the lineup came in the first game of a doubleheader. Nolan Gorman is handling second base and batting third for the Cardinals on Tuesday.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Exiting starting nine

Arias is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Yankees.

Arias isn't dealing with any known injury, but this will be the second time in the last four contests that he's been on the bench. Daniel Schneemann will start at second base and bat eighth for the Guardians.
