  • Alika Williams SS | PIT

Pirates' Alika Williams: Placed on IL

Pittsburgh placed Williams on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right wrist sprain.

The Pirates recalled right-hander Quinn Priester from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Williams on the active roster ahead of Priester's scheduled start Sunday in Toronto. Williams had largely served as a short-side platoon player in the infield for Pittsburgh following his call-up from Indianapolis on May 11.

  • Vaughn Grissom SS | LAA

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Moves to IL

The Red Sox placed Grissom (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Though the right hamstring strain that forced Grissom out of Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers is considered mild, he'll still need at least a week and a half to make a full recovery from the injury before rejoining Boston's 26-man active roster. The Red Sox selected the contract of Jamie Westbrook from Triple-A Worcester to bolster the team's depth in the middle infield in the short term, but Enmanuel Valdez and David Hamilton may be more likely options to pick up starts at second base while Grissom is on the mend.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Huge day against Detroit

Valdez went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers.

Getting the start at DH and batting fifth, Valdez tormented Matt Olson and took him deep in the second and sixth innings, adding a two-bagger in between for good measure. It was the 25-year-old infielder's first start since being called back up from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, but with Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) headed back to the IL after leaving Saturday's game early, the path is clear for Valdez to see regular action at second base for at least the next couple weeks, perhaps on the strong side of a platoon with Romy Gonzalez. Valdez is batting just .179 (17-for-95) in the majors this year, but he's having a breakout season in the power department, slugging four homers in 31 games for Boston and adding six in 20 games for Worcester.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | COL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Dealing with jammed thumb

Estrada is considered day-to-day after jamming his thumb during Friday's game against the Yankees, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Saturday's absence from the lineup is more than just a day off for the second baseman, who suffered a minor thumb injury in the series opener against New York. Estrada was deemed day-to-day and won't have the benefit of a team-wide rest day until Thursday. If Estrada is forced to miss more time, Brett Wisely would likely fill the gap at second.

  • Vaughn Grissom SS | LAA

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Likely to hit IL

Grissom has a mild right hamstring strain and is expected to be placed on the injured list, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reported Saturday.

Grissom was removed from Saturday's game against the Tigers in the third inning after slowing up and grabbing his right hamstring running to first on a groundout. While it's not the same hamstring that sidelined him at the start of the year, Saturday's injury will likely require an IL stint. While Grissom is sidelined, expect Romy Gonzalez, David Hamilton and Ceddanne Rafaela to see plenty of work in the middle infield.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | COL

    Giants' Thairo Estrada: Idle Saturday

Estrada is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Estrada will get his first day off since May 12, a well-earned break after generating seven hits across his last four starts. Brett Wisely will play second and bat ninth.

  • Vaughn Grissom SS | LAA

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Exits early Saturday

Grissom was removed from Saturday's contest with the Tigers in the top of the third inning due to a right hamstring strain, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Grissom grounded out in the bottom of the second inning and was replaced by Connor Wong at second base. He missed the first month of the season with a left hamstring strain. The Red Sox will close out its series against Detroit on Sunday before getting a day off Monday. Expect more information regarding Grissom's injury after Saturday's game.

  • Kyren Paris SS | LAA

Angels' Kyren Paris: Remains on bench

Paris is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Seattle, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Paris will remain on the bench for a second game in a row. Luis Rengifo will slide over to second base while Luis Guillorme draws another start at third base and bats ninth against the Mariners.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Sitting versus southpaw

Gimenez is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Nationals.

Gimenez will take a seat as Cleveland faces left-hander Mitchell Parker on Saturday. Gabriel Arias will draw the start at second base and bat seventh against Washington.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Day off Saturday

Frazier is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Padres.

Frazier will take a seat after he went 0-for-2 in the team's 11-8 loss in the series opener Friday. Nick Loftin will draw the start at second base and bat sixth against San Diego.
