  • Brandon Drury 2B | LAA

Angels' Brandon Drury: Ends power drought in loss

Drury went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Drury ended a power drought dating back to April with his eighth-inning homer, though it had little impact on the result. He missed time with a hamstring injury and an illness, but he hit just .144 and slugged a pitiful .170 over 62 games from April 15 to Aug. 24. While he's maintained regular playing time when healthy, Drury is in the midst of his worst season since 2020, slashing .157/.242/.207 with two homers, 11 RBI, 24 runs scored, six doubles and no stolen bases over 273 plate appearances this year.

  • Rays' Christopher Morel: Not in Sunday's lineup

Morel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Morel posted a .907 OPS while starting the past seven games but will sit for Sunday's series finale in Los Angeles. Yandy Diaz will receive a turn at designated hitter while Brandon Lowe shifts to first base and Jose Caballero starts at second.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | NYM

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Taking seat against lefty

McNeil is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

McNeil has an .854 OPS with five doubles and three homers through 19 games in August, but he'll sit Sunday against San Diego lefty Martin Perez. Jose Iglesias will man the keystone and bat seventh in the series finale.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Sitting versus southpaw

Frazier is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Phillies.

Frazier will sit Sunday for the second straight game as the Phillies send another left-hander (Kolby Allard) to the mound. Dairon Blanco will take over in right field and bat eighth in the series finale.

  • Brooks Baldwin 2B | CHW

White Sox's Brooks Baldwin: Out of Sunday's lineup

Baldwin is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Baldwin started the past five games but will sit Sunday after going 3-for-16 during that stretch. Lenyn Sosa will move to the keystone while Miguel Vargas receives a start at third base.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Sitting against lefty

Horwitz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

The lefty-hitting Horwitz will get the afternoon off in the series finale while the Angels send a southpaw (Tyler Anderson) to the hill. Horwitz had started in each of Toronto's last seven games, going 6-for-26 with two home runs, three doubles and three waks.

  • Angels' Michael Stefanic: Playing time dropping off

Stefanic will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Though he'll be included in the lineup in the series finale, Stefanic's playing time appears to be drying up after he previously started five and four consecutive games earlier this month. Stefanic has gone just 1-for-24 over his last seven contests and will likely continue to play second fiddle at the keystone to Brandon Drury.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Getting afternoon off

Triolo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

After starting in each of the last eight games while going 4-for-23 with two home runs and six walks against five strikeouts, Triolo will hit the bench for the series finale. Alika Williams will replace Triolo in the starting nine, manning second base while batting eighth.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | SEA

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Records fourth steal Saturday

Polanco went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run in a 4-3 loss to the Giants on Saturday.

Polanco got it done with some classic small ball Saturday, showing solid plate discipline and recording a rare steal during one of his trips on the basepaths. The veteran has progressively crawled out of a deep hole at the plate over the course of the second half of the season, with Saturday's production pushing his post-All-Star-break slash line to .269/.358/.529 across 120 plate appearances. Despite the quiet night from a power perspective Saturday, Polanco has also shown some welcome pop during that span, knocking 13 of his 28 hits for extra bases while driving in 18 runs.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | OAK

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Rare three-hit effort Saturday

Gelof went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs in a loss to the Brewers on Saturday.

Gelof made plenty of noise out of his No. 8 spot in the order, recording his second three-hit game of August but only his fifth all season with at least that many knocks. After a poor start to the current month, Gelof has finally started to show signs of life at the plate by posting a .286 average and .796 OPS across the 63 plate appearances covering his last 16 games.
