  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Takes seat versus lefty

Kemp is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Oakland is rolling out an all-right-handed lineup with Detroit throwing left-hander Tarik Skubal. Kemp has drawn only 17 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Exits with apparent injury

Lowe was removed from Thursday's game against the Angels with an apparent knee injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe fouled a ball hard off his right knee in the bottom of the seventh inning, though he was able to gut it out until the top of the ninth and doesn't seem to be dealing with anything too serious. Curtis Mead entered to play third base for the Rays as Isaac Paredes shifted over to second. Lowe finished the day 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts.

  • Jake Alu LF | WAS

Nationals' Jake Alu: Sitting against lefty

Alu isn't in the Nationals' lineup Thursday against Atlanta, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

With lefty starter Max Fried on the bump for Atlanta, Alu will take a seat for the beginning of Thursday's contest. His absence will allow Alex Call to start in right field and bat eighth.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Produces against Red Sox

Semien went 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 15-5 win over the Red Sox.

Semien finished up a strong three-game set against Boston, during which he went 5-for-11 with two walks, a double, a home run, six RBI and three runs scored. For the month, he's slashing .312/.398/.584 with five homers and 14 RBI over 16 games.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Homers in win

Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Giants.

Marte followed up his perfect 4-for-4 performance Tuesday with a solo shot in the seventh inning for his 24th home run. The Diamondbacks won their fifth straight, all against wild-card competitors, and Marte has been prominent in the streak. The second baseman has gone 8-for-21 with a double, two home runs, five RBI, four walks, a stolen base and five runs scored during the run, as the Diamondbacks leapfrogged the Cubs for the second wild-card spot while perhaps putting a dagger in the Giants playoff hopes.

  • Angels' Brandon Drury: Knocks in five runs in victory

Drury went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in an 8-3 win against the Rays on Wednesday.

Drury was responsible for the majority of Los Angeles' run production in the victory, knocking a three-run homer in the second inning and a two-run shot in the sixth. It was the third multi-homer performance of the campaign for the veteran infielder, who is up to 23 long balls and 75 RBI over 115 contests on the season. Drury had been struggling coming into Wednesday, slashing .164/.271/.377 over his first 16 contests in September.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Swats first homer of 2023

Rodgers went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Padres.

In his 36th game, Rodgers finally hit his first homer of the season, driving a Seth Lugo fastball over the left-center field fence in the first inning. The 27-year-old infielder has hit safely in seven straight games, going 12-for-27 (.444) with a double, four runs and four RBI, and with the Rockies finishing their campaign with a seven-game homestand next week, Rodgers could be able to keep his hot streak going.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Added to lineup Wednesday

Merrifield was added to the lineup for Wednesday's game at Yankee Stadium.

Merrifield will play second base and bat sixth with Cavan Biggio shifting over to first base. Spencer Horwitz is now serving as the Blue Jays' designated hitter after Vladimir Guerrero (knee) was a late scratch.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Slim chance of returning

Manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Gorman (hamstring) has a "slim" chance of returning before the end of the season, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman was placed on the 10-day injured list last Wednesday because of a Grade 2 right hamstring strain and the out-of-contention Cardinals have no real reason to rush him back for the final week. Tommy Edman, Jose Fermin and Juniel Querecuto are currently rotating in at second base.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Playing time trending down

Merrifield is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Wednesday's absence marks his sixth in Toronto's past nine games, as Merrifield's .549 OPS since the start of August appears to have caught up to him. Daulton Varsho continues to work as the primary left fielder, while Cavan Biggio has a hot stick while seeing regular at-bats in a utility role.
