  • Alejo Lopez 2B | ATH

Reds' Alejo Lopez: Joins major-league squad

The Reds added Lopez to the active roster as Stuart Fairchild's (illness) replacement Saturday.

With Fairchild headed for the COVID-19 injured list, Lopez will fill in as a depth piece for the Reds while Fairchild is out. Lopez is slashing .279/.386/.396 across 497 plate appearances in Triple-A this season, and he is unlikely to see many opportunities while with Cincinnati.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Heads to bench

Merrifield will sit Saturday against Kansas City.

Merrifield hits the bench after going 0-for-4 in each of his last four games. Davis Schneider starts at second base Saturday while Daulton Varsho starts in left field, the two spots Merrifield has split his time between this season.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Twins' Edouard Julien: Sits against southpaw

Julien will hit the bench Saturday against the Mets.

Julien has only started five games against southpaws all season, so it's no surprise to see him on the bench here against David Peterson. While he's crushed righties to the tune of an .885 OPS, his .452 OPS in a tiny sample of 42 plate appearances against lefties means he's unlikely to advance beyond a platoon role any time soon. Kyle Farmer enters the lineup, starting at third base while Royce Lewis rests his legs in Julien's usual designated hitter spot.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Goes deep Friday

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk Friday in an 8-5 victory against the Nationals.

Hernandez hit one of three homers for the Dodgers off MacKenzie Gore in the contest, swatting a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning. Hernandez continues to see semi-regular playing time for Los Angeles despite not being the primary option at any position, and he's gone 5-for-12 with two RBI over his past three games. Since rejoining the Dodgers via trade July 25, the utility man is slashing .265/.326/.436 with three homers, 18 RBI and 13 runs over 36 games.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Set for additional tests

Rengifo will undergo additional testing on his injured biceps in the next few days, Doug Padilla of The Orange Country Register reports.

Rengifo was injured while taking a practice swing in the on-deck circle during Thursday's game, and he was subsequently diagnosed with a biceps injury. The utility man said Friday that he was feeling better, though he was wearing a brace on his left elbow, and Angels manager Phil Nevin stated that his prognosis "doesn't look great." The injury comes at a particularly unfortunate time for Rengifo, as he was in the midst of his best offensive stretch of the campaign, riding a 14-game hitting streak during which he slashed .446/.476/.804 with five homers, 14 RBI, nine runs and a stolen base.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Begins rehab assignment

India (foot) went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, two RBI and two runs scored for Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

India kicked off a rehab assignment and was active on the left foot that cost him more than five weeks. Coming back from plantar fasciitis, he started at second base and played six innings. India will get at least another two games with the Bats and could return Tuesday, when the Reds begin a three-game set against the Tigers in Detroit.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Records three hits, swipes two bags

Turang went 3-for-5 with one run scored and two stolen bases in Friday's win over the Yankees.

Turang showed off his wheels Friday by stealing two bags and mixing in an infield single among his three hits. The 23-year-old has 20 stolen bases in 24 attempts this season, but the three hits only lifted his batting average to a paltry .222. While the speed is nice, Turang has produced only 17 extra-base hits on the season in 356 at-bats, and none since Aug. 7.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Runs wild Friday

Kim went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, three stolen bases and two runs scored in Friday's 11-2 win over the Astros.

Kim did his part to get on base, and he also showed no hesitation on the basepaths Friday. The infielder has stolen multiple bases in five games this year, including a pair of three-steal efforts. For the year, he's 34-for-42 on pilfers while slashing a reliable .273/.364/.422 with 17 home runs, 57 RBI and 79 runs scored over 137 contests. He continues to hit well from the top of the Padres' order.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Scratched with conjunctivitis

Estrada was scratched from the lineup Friday against the Rockies with conjunctivitis, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Casey Schmitt will cover second base with Wilmer Flores moving up to the second spot in the Giants' batting order. Estrada might also be in danger of missing the rest of the weekend as he recovers from pink eye.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Sitting against lefty

Kemp isn't in Oakland's lineup Friday against the Rangers.

Lefty Jordan Montgomery will toe the slab for Texas to begin Friday's contest, so Kemp will stay put in the Athletics' dugout. Aledmys Diaz will take over as Oakland's left fielder and bat fourth.
