  • Brandon Drury 2B | LAA

    Angels' Brandon Drury: Idle Wednesday

Drury isn't in the Angels' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

After going 3-for-18 with two runs scored over his last five games, Drury will get a breather Wednesday while Jack Lopez starts at the keystone and bats ninth.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: Taking seat against lefty

Stott is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Stott will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed-hitting regular Brandon Marsh as Atlanta sends ace southpaw Max Fried to the hill. Edmundo Sosa will fill in for Stott at second base.

  • Jose Fermin 3B | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Summoned from minors

The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Fermin is taking the roster spot of the struggling Nolan Gorman, who has been optioned to Memphis. The 25-year-old Fermin will offer St. Louis a backup option at second base, third base and shortstop, and he could see some starts versus left-handed pitching.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sent to Triple-A

The Cardinals optioned Gorman to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Gorman's strikeout rate on the season ballooned to 37.6 percent after he went 0-for-4 with three punchouts in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Strikeouts are nothing new for Gorman, but this season, they haven't been accompanied by much production, with the 24-year-old's OPS cratering to .671 after an .805 mark in 2023. With Gorman out of the picture, Brendan Donovan should see most of his playing time at second base moving forward.

  • Will Wagner 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Will Wagner: Sitting versus righty

Wagner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Reds.

Right-hander Nick Martinez is drawing the start for the Reds, marking the first time Wagner has not been in the lineup against a righty since he was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo on Aug. 12. Leo Jimenez will cover second base in place of Wagner, who is batting .435 through his first seven big-league games.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Belts seventh homer

Horwitz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

The Blue Jays launched five homers off Carson Spiers in the first five innings Tuesday, with Horwitz's blast being his seventh of the season. The 26-year-old has maintained an everyday role for Toronto while bouncing between first base, DH and occasionally second base, but Horwitz is slashing just .217/.304/.400 through 17 games in August with three homers, seven RBI and 11 runs.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Rare day off Wednesday

Altuve is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Altuve is getting a rare day off after starting in every game since July 7. Alex Bregman (elbow) will return from a five-game absence and will be elevated to the leadoff spot normally reserved for Altuve, while Mauricio Dubon will handle second base.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | NYM

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Out against left-hander

McNeil is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles.

The Orioles have southpaw Cole Irvin on the hill, so the left-handed-hitting McNeil will begin Wednesday's afternoon game on the bench. Jose Iglesias will start at second base and bat seventh for the Mets.

  • Gavin Lux 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Homers again Tuesday

Lux went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Lux got the scoring started for the Dodgers in the fourth with a solo home run to center for his second home run in as many games. Lux has been one of the best hitters in baseball over the last month-plus. Since July 11, he's slashing .358/.423/.670 with eight homers, 24 RBI and 17 runs, and his 1.092 OPS leads the National League over that span. For the season, Lux is now slashing .254/.313/.400 with 10 homers, 45 RBI, 44 runs, four steals and a 29:85 BB:K in 387 plate appearances.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | SEA

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Plates three runs

Polanco went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.

Polanco drove in all three runs for the Mariners. Tuesday marked just the third time this season he's had three RBI in a game, but he now has three multi-hit efforts over his last eight games and is batting .357 over that span. It's still been a sluggish year overall for the 30-year-old, who's now slashing .221/.306/.368 with 12 homers, 36 RBI, 34 runs, three steals and a 35:108 BB:K in 346 plate appearances.
