  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Scratched with back injury

Torres (back) was a late scratch from the Yankees' lineup Friday versus the Astros, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Torres was originally set to start at second base against Houston, but he will be forced to sit out and should be considered day-to-day until more information is released about the nature of his back issue. Oswald Peraza will take over at second base while Isiah Kiner-Falefa enters the lineup at third base and bats sixth in the series opener.

  • Dodgers' Yonny Hernandez: Pushed off 40-man

The Dodgers designated Hernandez for assignment and outrighted him to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

With the addition of Kolten Wong to the active roster Friday, Hernandez will remain in OKC but lose his spot on the 40-man. The 25-year-old is slashing .252/.407/.363 across 339 plate appearances in Triple-A and will likely remain in the minors to conclude the season.

  • Kolten Wong 2B | BAL

Dodgers' Kolten Wong: Selected to active roster

The Dodgers selected Wong's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

After slashing just .165/.241/.227 with Seattle, Wong was let go by the Mariners and eventually signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers. He went 7-for-13 with six RBI and three runs scored in just three games with Oklahoma City, so he'll join the big-league club to provide second-base depth behind Mookie Betts for the final month of the season. Yonny Hernandez was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Playing right field Friday

Rengifo is starting in right field and batting second Friday at Oakland.

Rengifo looks poised to see more outfield action down the stretch as the Angels work in September call-up Kyren Paris at shortstop and second base. Paris is playing short and hitting ninth in his MLB debut Friday versus the Athletics.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Recalled from Triple-A

Boston recalled Valdez from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Valdez got an extended run with the Red Sox earlier this season but batted just .234 with a .684 OPS across 101 plate appearances. The 24-year-old has put up impressive power numbers in the minors and could perhaps platoon at second base with Luis Urias.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Moves to 60-day IL

The Cardinals transferred Donovan (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Donovan underwent season-ending surgery in August to repair the flexor strain in his right elbow, so a move to the 60-day IL was expected. His spot on the 40-man roster will be filled by Ryan Helsley (forearm), who came off the 60-day injured list Friday.

  • Owen Miller 2B | CHC

Brewers' Owen Miller: Back in majors

The Brewers recalled Miller from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

As MLB rosters expand to 28 players, Miller will give the Brewers another option in the infield as they push for the postseason. With Andruw Monasterio in a major slump at the plate, it's possible Miller ends up seeing regular action at third base, but he's also capable of playing first base, second base or in the outfield.

  • Angels' Michael Stefanic: Recalled from Triple-A

The Angels recalled Stefanic from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

Stefanic will likely operate as a backup on the Angels' infield as he returns to the majors with rosters expanding from 26 to 28. The 27-year-old carries a .195/.290/.232 career slash line in 94 plate appearances at baseball's highest level.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Returns to lineup Friday

Rodgers (illness) is starting at second base and batting fifth Friday versus the Blue Jays in his return to the lineup.

It's Rodgers' first start since Sunday, as he's been battling an illness this week but is finally feeling well enough to give it a go. The infielder is sporting just a .218/.274/.295 slash line in 20 games since returning from shoulder surgery in late July.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

Mets' Danny Mendick: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Mendick to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

With the arrival of Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio to the major-league squad Friday, Mendick will be pushed back to the minors. The 29-year-old infielder slashed just .190/.227/.286 across 66 plate appearances with the Mets and will likely finish the season in Syracuse.
